ACCIONA Cultura, a global leader in museum and exhibition creation, has been chosen to spearhead two of New York’s most iconic projects: The Hip Hop Museum in The Bronx and the revitalization of the Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration.
These projects mark a significant advancement in ACCIONA Cultura’s goal to strengthen its presence in the museum and exhibition sector across the USA.
The “Ellis Island Museum Reimagined” initiative is part of a $100 million revitalization effort by the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation. This project aims to preserve the 125-year-old landmark, enrich its exhibits, and present a more engaging narrative about immigration in a building that once processed twelve million immigrants into the US. ACCIONA Cultura will enhance interactive installations, highlight the museum’s historic architecture, and improve accessibility throughout its 137,000 square feet. Completion is anticipated in 2026.
The Hip Hop Museum, slated to open in late 2025 in The Bronx—the birthplace of the genre—will celebrate and educate the public about Hip Hop’s rich cultural heritage and artistic impact. ACCIONA Cultura will create a vibrant space of over 55,000 square feet, featuring immersive experiences, activities, and exhibitions designed to engage and inspire creativity among visitors.
Chosen through a competitive selection process, ACCIONA Cultura, part of the Spanish renewable energy and sustainable infrastructure firm ACCIONA, was selected for these projects due to its expertise in developing culturally significant museums worldwide.
These new ventures join ACCIONA Cultura’s impressive portfolio, which includes the Grand Egyptian Museum, The House of European History in Brussels, The National Museum of Abu Dhabi, The Real Madrid Experience in Madrid, and the immersive Frida Kahlo experience displayed across five countries.
Alex Manresa, U.S. Director at ACCIONA Cultura, remarked: “The stories of Ellis Island’s immigration history and Hip Hop’s global cultural impact are among America’s most compelling narratives. We are proud to contribute to their telling. Over the past 30 years, our team has developed a unique approach that blends creativity, technology, and innovation with a strong commitment to sustainability. This approach will be evident in these two iconic New York museums, bringing their stories to life for audiences worldwide.”
