Conran and Partners Joins DLR Group, Expanding Its Global Design Network
Global integrated design firm DLR Group has announced that London and Hong Kong-based architecture and interior design studio Conran and Partners has joined the firm. The move expands DLR Group’s international presence and establishes its first studio in Europe.
Following the partnership, Conran and Partners will continue operating under its established name as Conran and Partners, a DLR Group studio. The Hong Kong location will operate under the same structure. The arrangement is designed to preserve the studio’s established identity, design approach and client relationships while providing access to DLR Group’s broader international resources.
Conran and Partners is internationally recognized for its work across luxury hospitality, branded residences, high-end residential developments, workplaces and retail environments. The studio works with international clients on projects that combine architecture, interiors and detailed design.
The studio also continues the design legacy associated with its founder, Sir Terence Conran, whose approach emphasized the role of thoughtful design in improving people’s everyday experiences.
Expanding Luxury Design Capabilities
DLR Group said the partnership will strengthen its capabilities at the premium end of the global design market. Conran and Partners brings specialized experience in luxury design, particularly across hospitality and residential projects.
DLR Group CEO Steven McKay said the two firms share a belief in using design to improve the human experience. He also highlighted the opportunity for Conran and Partners’ design expertise to complement DLR Group’s existing capabilities across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States.
The partnership gives DLR Group an established European design presence through Conran and Partners’ London studio. It also strengthens the firm’s position in Asia through the Hong Kong studio.
For Conran and Partners, joining DLR Group provides access to a larger global network and additional resources while allowing the studio to retain its boutique identity.
Leadership to Remain in Place
The five partners of Conran and Partners — Tim Bowder-Ridger, Katy Clarke, Sebastian Conran, Simon Kincaid and Tina Norden — will remain with the business as principals. They will continue to lead operations from the London and Hong Kong offices.
The leadership structure is intended to provide continuity for employees and clients while allowing the studio to take advantage of the wider opportunities available through DLR Group.
Speaking on behalf of the five partners, Bowder-Ridger said the studio had been exploring options for a strategic partnership that would enable further growth without compromising its boutique culture and creative approach.
According to Bowder-Ridger, DLR Group offered the combination of additional design resources, international reach and growth opportunities while allowing Conran and Partners to remain focused on its established identity.
Access to Global Opportunities
Through DLR Group’s international network, Conran and Partners will have access to larger-scale opportunities across hospitality, mixed-use developments, residential projects and workplace design.
The partnership also creates an opportunity for Conran and Partners to expand its presence in the United States by connecting with DLR Group’s established operations and client network.
At the same time, the London and Hong Kong studios provide DLR Group with a platform for expanding into additional markets in Europe and Asia.
The companies said the relationship will enable them to pursue projects that require a combination of global resources and specialized luxury design expertise.
McKay said Conran and Partners will remain a distinct boutique luxury design studio within DLR Group. Maintaining that distinction is intended to protect the studio’s creative character while supporting its future growth.
Employee Ownership Opportunity
The partnership also introduces an employee ownership opportunity for Conran and Partners’ design professionals.
Approximately 75 design professionals working across the London and Hong Kong studios will have the opportunity to become employee owners through the purchase of DLR Group stock.
The employee ownership model was identified by Conran and Partners leadership as an important factor in the decision to join DLR Group. The firms said the structure provides team members with an opportunity to participate in the wider organization while gaining access to new professional and career opportunities.
Norden said the opportunity for employees to become owners, together with DLR Group’s design culture, helped demonstrate the compatibility between the two organizations.
She added that clients will continue working with the same Conran and Partners team and studio, while gaining access to additional design resources and expertise through DLR Group.
Maintaining Studio Identity
A central aspect of the partnership is the continuation of Conran and Partners’ existing design identity. Rather than fully integrating the studio under the DLR Group name, the business will retain its established branding and operate as a distinct studio within the larger organization.
This approach is intended to combine the advantages of a global design firm with the creative character and specialized expertise of a boutique practice.
For clients, the firms expect the transition to provide continuity in design teams and relationships while expanding the range of services and geographic markets available through the broader DLR Group network.
