Refrigeration Technologies Launches Viper EZDose to Help HVACR Contractors Prevent Costly Drain Line Issues
Refrigeration Technologies, the Southern California-based manufacturer behind the Viper® line of non-toxic HVACR chemical solutions, has introduced Viper EZDose™, an innovative gravity-fed pan and drain line maintenance system designed to help HVAC professionals prevent condensate drain blockages before they lead to water damage, odor complaints, and expensive service callbacks.
The new system addresses one of the HVAC industry’s most common yet overlooked maintenance challenges: clogged condensate drain lines. By providing consistent treatment across the entire drain pan and system, EZDose helps contractors improve preventive maintenance practices and reduce the risk of avoidable failures.
“EZDose came out of a simple frustration — the same problem kept showing up on the same units, and the existing solutions weren’t solving it,” said Robert Kraft, inventor of EZDose and a 36-year HVAC industry veteran. Kraft developed the product through Refrigeration Technologies’ outside inventor program after identifying limitations in traditional drain maintenance methods.
According to HVAC industry data, clogged condensate drain lines contribute to a significant percentage of water-related air conditioning service calls, with many issues being preventable through proper maintenance. Residential HVAC systems can remove large amounts of moisture from indoor air every day. When condensate cannot drain properly, water can accumulate, causing overflow issues that may damage ceilings, walls, flooring, and other property areas.
Traditional drain pan treatments, such as tablets and strips, often remain concentrated in one location and may not provide complete coverage throughout the drain pan. EZDose was developed to overcome this limitation by delivering treatment across multiple areas of the evaporator drain pan and drain system.
Unlike solutions that rely on electrical components, automated systems, or single-point placement, Viper EZDose uses a gravity-fed reservoir valve, tubing, and fittings to distribute Viper Pan & Drain Treatment throughout the system. The design allows the treatment to reach areas where buildup from slime, mildew, sludge, and biological growth commonly develops.
The system requires no electricity, batteries, wiring, applications, or motors, reducing installation complexity and eliminating potential points of failure. HVAC technicians can install EZDose quickly using the included components, creating a simple and reliable approach to condensate maintenance.
Once installed, technicians fill the 32-ounce magnetic reservoir with Viper Pan & Drain Treatment, a non-corrosive and biodegradable gel formulation designed specifically for HVAC systems. The treatment combines detergents, enzymes, and silicone technology to clean and protect condensate drainage components.
The enzymes work to break down existing organic buildup, while the silicone coating helps improve water flow through the pan, P-trap, and drain piping. This protective layer also helps prevent future buildup from attaching to system surfaces.
Maintenance with EZDose is designed to be simple and repeatable. For standard preventive maintenance, technicians can add approximately 8 ounces of treatment every three months. For systems with recurring drainage issues, a more frequent application of 4 ounces monthly can be used.
The reservoir can be mounted directly onto HVAC equipment using built-in magnets or installed nearby with the included drywall anchors. This flexibility allows contractors to integrate EZDose into a wide range of residential and commercial HVAC applications.
For HVAC companies that operate preventative maintenance agreements, EZDose provides a visible and consistent service solution. Contractors can demonstrate an added layer of protection during scheduled maintenance visits while helping reduce unexpected drain-related service calls that impact customer satisfaction and profitability.
“This is exactly the kind of product Refrigeration Technologies was built to make,” said Mike Pastorello, president and CEO of Refrigeration Technologies. “It solves a real field problem, it installs without complexity, and it uses chemistry that won’t harm the equipment or the people working on it. For contractors running maintenance agreements, EZDose gives them something tangible to point to every single visit.”
