NCC has signed 22 agreements with the Swedish Transport Administration for paving work across large parts of northern Sweden. The total order value of the projects is approximately SEK 540 million.
The 22 projects comprise various types of paving work. In total, 360,000 tons of asphalt will be laid in the projects, which are located between Gävle and Kiruna, primarily in Norrbotten and Västerbotten.
The Swedish Transport Administration imposes high environmental standards. In some projects, for example, the environmental performance of the asphalt must be specified in an environmental product declaration (EPD), which NCC holds for about 85 percent of its asphalt plants in Sweden. An EPD linked to a specific asphalt plant enables the customer to create a more accurate environmental and climate impact calculation.
“It is highly positive that the Swedish Transport Administration has maintained its focus on environmental aspects when procuring asphalting contracts. We look forward to continuing our successful collaboration with the Swedish Transport Administration in northern Sweden, and to continuing to improve roads across the region,” says Grete Aspelund, Head of NCC Industry.
The asphalt mixes are produced in local asphalt plants as close to the sites as possible. In many of the projects, the local plants are complemented with mobile asphalt plants, which is a prerequisite for being able to work across large areas in northern Sweden.
NCC has also previously partnered with the Swedish Transport Administration on paving work in Northern Sweden, which was communicated in a Swedish press release on March 7, 2022, for example.
The total contract value is an estimated SEK 540 million, which will be registered in the NCC Industry business area on an ongoing basis during 2023 and 2024.
