Building a More Sustainable Future in Construction

As Australia’s leading contractor, CPB Contractors is committed to driving sustainable outcomes across every aspect of our operations. Central to this commitment is our focus on innovation—continually exploring new ways to accelerate the decarbonisation agenda across the construction industry.

In a significant step forward, we’ve launched our Sustainability Playbook—a strategic guide that outlines how our suppliers and subcontractors can actively contribute to building a more sustainable future. The playbook showcases how CPB Contractors is applying innovative thinking and delivery practices to develop better, greener construction solutions.

This newly launched guide details CPB Contractors’ environmental sustainability goals and serves as an open invitation for our partners to join us on the journey to reduce carbon emissions and mitigate climate change impacts.

David Fox, Group Manager – Sustainability at CPB Contractors, emphasised the importance of collaboration in achieving these goals.

“We believe that what benefits our team, our partners, and the environment ultimately benefits the wider community, the industry, and our future,” says David. “But we can’t achieve these outcomes alone. That’s why we’re encouraging all subcontractors and suppliers to work alongside us, leveraging every project and opportunity to create meaningful impact.”

One powerful example of sustainable innovation in action is the implementation of the first hybrid power system at CPB Contractors’ site compound in Aldinga. Delivered through the Fleurieu Connections Alliance on the Main South Road Duplication Project – Stage 2, this initiative features a 20-kilowatt solar array that significantly cuts diesel usage across the project.

Fully solar-powered and supported by an on-site battery storage system, the hybrid setup provides reliable energy for plant and equipment regardless of weather conditions. This solution marks a sustainability milestone for South Australia and is a strong demonstration of CPB Contractors’ commitment to reducing emissions, waste, and environmental impact across all operations.

“Projects like this represent just the beginning,” David adds. “We’re excited to continue working with our partners to develop innovative, sustainable solutions that benefit the communities where we live and work. Our new Sustainability Playbook will be a key enabler in that journey—motivating and guiding our partners to join us in making a real, lasting difference.
