
Builders FirstSource Welcomes New Board Members
Builders FirstSource, Inc. announced the appointment of Cheryl Ainoa, former Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer of Walmart Global Technology, and Maria Renz, Vice President and General Manager at Google, to its Board of Directors. Their appointments are effective as of March 1, 2025.

About Cheryl Ainoa, MBA
Cheryl Ainoa recently retired from Walmart, where she served as CTO for Sam’s Club, guiding its transformation into a technology-driven retailer. She began her Walmart career in 2020 as Senior Vice President of Core Retail Services and Emerging Technology, later advancing to Executive Vice President of New Businesses & Emerging Technology in 2023. Her work focused on transformative technologies, including generative AI and digital innovation.

Before Walmart, Cheryl was Chief Operating Officer of D2L, a SaaS company focused on education technology. Her experience also includes senior roles at Intuit and Yahoo!, where she led global service engineering teams. Early in her career, Cheryl held technical leadership positions at Broderbund Software, Genealogy.com, Healtheon/WebMD, Informix Software, and Impac Medical Systems. Additionally, she served as an independent director of Move, Inc., which was acquired by NewsCorp in 2014.
Cheryl’s expertise spans software product development, engineering, emerging technologies, mergers and acquisitions, and P&L management. Her diverse industry experience includes retail, healthcare, consumer goods, and software services. She holds an MBA from Santa Clara University and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Washington State University.
About Maria Renz, MBA
Maria Renz currently serves as Vice President and General Manager at Google. Previously, she led Google’s Commerce division, overseeing a cross-functional team of over 4,000 employees focused on developing exceptional shopping and payment experiences for consumers and merchants.
Before joining Google, Maria held executive roles at SoFi, where she contributed to the company’s growth, IPO, and federal banking license process. During her 20-year tenure at Amazon, she became the first woman to serve as Technical Advisor to the CEO and played a key role in developing innovations such as Subscribe & Save and Amazon Prime’s shipping benefits.
Maria is recognized for her customer-centric approach and ability to address complex global retail challenges. Her board experience includes supporting companies through digital transformations, e-commerce growth, and fintech advancements. Notably, she served on the board of DoorDash during its IPO process. Maria holds an MBA from Vanderbilt University and a Bachelor of Science in Design from Drexel University.
