For the 19th consecutive year, the Hochtief Group has secured its place in the prestigious Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI) of S&P Global. The company has been recognized in both the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability Europe Index, affirming its commitment to environmental, social, and governance (ESG) excellence. This consistent recognition underscores Hochtief’s leadership in integrating sustainability into its operations, with the company earning top rankings across all three dimensions of sustainability: environmental, social, and governance & economic.
Over the past year, Hochtief has made notable progress in critical sustainability areas, such as climate strategy, biodiversity, occupational safety, and human rights. These advancements reflect the company’s dedication to addressing some of the most pressing global challenges. A key part of its strategy is its ambitious goal to achieve climate neutrality by 2045. Additionally, the company is focused on delivering circular economy solutions that align with its broader vision for sustainable development.
These objectives are outlined in Hochtief’s Sustainability Plan 2025, which sets near-term targets to ensure meaningful progress. Martina Steffen, a member of Hochtief’s Executive Board and the company’s Chief Sustainability Officer, emphasizes the inseparability of economic success and sustainability. “For us, economic success and sustainability are two sides of the same coin. We are pursuing our ESG goals in a consistent and rigorous manner throughout the Group,” she states.
The Dow Jones Sustainability World Index is among the most recognized benchmarks for corporate sustainability. It identifies the world’s leading companies in sustainability practices, as assessed by S&P Global’s Corporate Sustainability Assessment (CSA). Inclusion in this index is a significant achievement, as it represents the top 10% of the largest 2,500 companies in the S&P Global BMI benchmark based on long-term economic, environmental, and social performance criteria.
This milestone not only highlights Hochtief’s enduring commitment to ESG principles but also reinforces its role as a global leader in sustainable construction and infrastructure. By integrating sustainability into its core business strategy, the company continues to demonstrate that addressing environmental and social challenges can drive both innovation and economic growth.
