Skanska builds a new sports arena in Stockholm for about SEK 640M

Skanska has been commissioned by S:t Erik Markutveckling AB, part of the City of Stockholm, to build the Ulvsunda Sports Center in Bromma, Stockholm. The contract, which also includes upgrading the property’s technical infrastructure, is worth approximately SEK 640M, which will be included in the order bookings for Skanska Sweden in the second quarter, 2024.

Ulvsunda Sports Center will grow up on the property where the old Pripps brewery was located. It will be a facility with a gross area of approximately 25,000 square meters with space for indoor sports such as handball, basketball, floorball and volleyball. Spaces are also planned for table tennis, dancing, wrestling, fencing, judo and more. In addition to the new sports centre, Skanska’s mission includes replacing obsolete parts of the property’s technical infrastructure with new systems.

Since the old brewery building is classified as culturally and historically valuable, it will be preserved on the outside, and even internal parts of the building will remain to some extent.

Recycling and sustainable material selection are important focus areas. Among other things, lighting fixtures, sanitary ware, doors, bricks and suspended ceilings will be reused and 2,000 refurbished bleacher seats will be installed in the event hall. Stands and stairs will be built in cross-glued wood and traditional sheet steel ventilation ducts will be replaced with textile ducts.

Construction work will begin shortly and the project should be completed in the fall of 2026.
