Flint Development Begins Historic Transformation of Kansas City’s Hotel Muehlebach
Flint Development, a national real estate development firm, has officially begun construction on the historic redevelopment of Kansas City’s iconic Hotel Muehlebach. Located at the southwest corner of 12th Street and Baltimore Avenue in Downtown Kansas City, the project is set to transform the long-vacant upper floors of the landmark property into a modern multifamily community while preserving the building’s important place in the city’s history.
The redevelopment will focus on the original 1915 Muehlebach building, where the upper guest floors have remained unused for decades. Flint Development plans to convert these previously vacant spaces into approximately 158 modern apartments designed to provide high-quality urban housing in the center of Kansas City.
A major component of the project will be a luxury rooftop amenity deck on the building’s 12th floor. The new residential spaces and amenities are expected to combine contemporary living with the historic character of one of Downtown Kansas City’s most recognizable buildings.
The redevelopment will also preserve and celebrate the hotel’s extraordinary presidential legacy. Known historically as the “White House of the West,” the Hotel Muehlebach hosted numerous U.S. presidents and other prominent figures throughout its history. Flint Development plans to restore the famous Truman Presidential Suite, where President Harry S. Truman frequently stayed, and make the suite available as a short-term rental. The restoration will provide visitors with an opportunity to experience a distinctive part of American history while supporting the continued revitalization of the landmark property.
The hotel’s history extends well beyond President Truman. Every American president from Theodore Roosevelt through Ronald Reagan spent at least one night at the Muehlebach. The property also welcomed numerous famous entertainers, athletes and public figures, including The Beatles, Frank Sinatra, Babe Ruth, Elvis Presley and Helen Keller.
For Flint Development, the redevelopment represents both a significant investment in Downtown Kansas City and an opportunity to restore a property with deep cultural and civic importance.
