Workspace Property Trust (Workspace), a leading suburban commercial office owner with a significant presence in South Florida, has announced a collaborative art initiative with Alonzo Mourning’s Overtown Youth Center (OYC Miami) titled “The World is Your Workspace.” This program, launched in October to coincide with National Arts & Humanities Month, engages local youth in creating a large-scale mural at OYC Miami under the guidance of artist and Be the Renaissance founder Kyle Olani Adams.
The mural project aims to inspire creativity, foster community engagement, and provide youth with constructive outlets for self-expression. The final artwork will debut during December’s Art Basel week at OYC Miami before traveling to Workspace properties across South Florida, showcasing the talent and hard work of OYC students to Workspace tenants and visitors.
Inspiring Creativity and Community Growth
“Workspace Property Trust has deep roots in South Florida, and we’re proud to launch an initiative that enriches the communities where our employees and tenants live and work,” said Tom Rizk, co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of Workspace. “Collaborating with basketball legend and community pillar Alonzo Mourning’s Overtown Youth Center to bring Kyle Olani Adams to South Florida is a powerful way to inspire the next generation. Our goal is to provide engaging, interactive workshops as constructive outlets to foster self-discovery and a sense of accomplishment—life skills the students will carry well into their futures.”
The Mission of OYC Miami
Founded in 2003 by NBA Hall of Famer Alonzo Mourning and real estate developer Martin Z. Margulies, OYC Miami is dedicated to enriching the lives of youth, adults, and families in Miami through education, exposure, and community support. This initiative aligns with the center’s pillar of enrichment and exposure, offering students new opportunities to grow and succeed.
“It’s not just about painting a mural—it’s about empowering these young artists to express themselves, feel proud of their work, and see how creativity can inspire change,” Mourning said. “Workspace’s commitment to this initiative shows their dedication to being a positive force in the South Florida community. By giving our youth the chance to create something meaningful, they’re helping build the confidence that will carry these kids through life.”
About the Artist and the Vision
Kyle Olani Adams, an artist passionate about inspiring youth, previously collaborated with Workspace in July, leading workshops for OYC Miami students on painting and music production. This fall, Adams has returned to guide the mural project and oversee the installation of artwork by local artists at three Workspace office locations in Boca Raton, Miramar, and Sunrise.
“With Workspace’s support, these projects connect people from various communities through art, giving Overtown Youth Center students a platform to explore their artistic interests and exercise their strengths,” Adams explained. “Additionally, bringing art installations into Workspace’s office locations extends that creative energy into workplaces, creating moments for pause, inspiration, and contemplation that could change the trajectory of someone’s day.”
Expanding the Initiative Nationwide
Looking ahead, Workspace Property Trust plans to expand this initiative to its 23 markets nationwide, incorporating similar programs across its more than 200 properties. By integrating art and creativity into suburban office spaces, Workspace continues to redefine the role of commercial real estate in fostering community engagement and cultural enrichment.
