Thiess Secures Major Contract Wins Across Gold and Critical Minerals Projects

Thiess Group Secures Three New Contracts Across Gold and Critical Minerals Projects in Australia

The Thiess Group has strengthened its position in Australia’s underground mining sector after securing three new contract awards spanning gold and critical minerals projects across Victoria and Tasmania. The agreements include new project work at the Sunday Creek Gold-Antimony Project and Fosterville Gold Mine in Victoria, along with an extension of services at the Rosebery Polymetallic Base Metal Mine in Tasmania.

The new contracts highlight Thiess’ growing capabilities in delivering specialized underground mining solutions across Australia’s precious metals and critical minerals industries. The company continues to expand its portfolio by supporting complex mining operations that require advanced technical expertise, safe execution and reliable project delivery.

Underground General Manager James Glover said the company was proud to work alongside leading mining organizations to support important Australian mining projects.

“These projects reflect our strength in technically complex underground environments and our ability to mobilise quickly and deliver safely,” Glover said.

He added that Thiess remains focused on providing high-quality, value-driven solutions while helping customers achieve their operational goals through experienced teams and specialized underground capabilities.

Thiess Group Executive and Chair Michael Wright said the contract wins demonstrate the company’s increasing role in supporting Australia’s underground mining sector and the country’s growing demand for critical minerals.

“These awards reinforce our position as a partner of choice for complex, high value underground projects that are critical to Australia’s economic and energy future,” Wright said.

“From supporting Victoria’s critical minerals pipeline at Sunday Creek, to enabling the next phase of expansion and sustainability at Fosterville, and continuing our partnership at Rosebery, each project demonstrates our ability to deliver safely, reliably and at scale across a range of specialist underground mining services.”

Supporting the Sunday Creek Gold-Antimony Project

One of the newly awarded contracts involves Southern Cross Gold Consolidated Ltd (TSX: SXGC, ASX: SX2)’s Sunday Creek Gold-Antimony Project in Victoria. The company has selected Thiess Group to complete underground decline development works at the project.

The contract includes several key activities, including portal establishment, primary decline development, support services and lateral development.

The Sunday Creek project is considered an important development within Victoria’s gold and antimony sector, with antimony recognized as a critical mineral due to its role in various industrial and technology applications.

Thiess’ involvement will support the advancement of underground access and development infrastructure required for future project activities. The company’s experience in underground mining environments will be critical in managing the technical challenges associated with decline construction and underground development.

Expanding Services at Fosterville Gold Mine

Thiess has also secured a contract with Agnico Eagle to deliver raise boring and shaft lining services at the Fosterville Gold Mine near Bendigo, Victoria.

The project scope includes the excavation and lining of a 374-metre-deep raise bore shaft, which will support a major ventilation upgrade at the mine.

Ventilation infrastructure plays a critical role in underground mining operations by improving working conditions, supporting safety requirements and enabling efficient production activities.

Through this contract, Thiess will apply its specialist underground expertise to help enhance the mine’s long-term operational capabilities. The work represents another example of the company’s ability to deliver technically demanding underground projects.

Extending Partnership at Rosebery Mine

In Tasmania, Thiess has signed a two-year extension of its shotcrete and cement rockfill contract at MMG’s Rosebery Polymetallic Base Metal Mine.

The extension builds on a successful three-year contract period that delivered strong safety and production outcomes for the operation. During this time, the project achieved these results without a single recordable injury.

The Rosebery mine has been operating continuously for more than 90 years and remains an important contributor to Tasmania’s mining industry.

The extended contract will continue supporting underground mining activities through specialist services that help maintain safe and efficient operations.

Last year, Thiess also secured a separate three-year contract to provide underground rehabilitation and development services at Rosebery, further strengthening the company’s long-term relationship with the operation.

Delivering Specialist Underground Mining Solutions

The newly awarded contracts will be delivered by PYBAR, Thiess’ specialist underground metals mining business. PYBAR brings extensive experience in underground mining services, including development, production, rehabilitation and infrastructure projects.

The addition of these contracts reinforces Thiess’ ability to support a diverse range of commodities, including gold, antimony and base metals. As demand grows for critical minerals and advanced mining solutions, the company continues investing in the skills, technology and expertise needed to deliver complex underground projects.

With operations spanning major mining regions, Thiess remains focused on partnering with customers to deliver safe, sustainable and efficient mining outcomes.

The three new contract wins demonstrate the company’s continued growth in Australia’s underground mining market and its commitment to supporting the future of the resources industry.
