Granite Chosen for Tahoe Cedars Water System Reconstruction Project

Granite (NYSE: GVA) has been selected by the Tahoe City Public Utility District (TCPUD) to lead the approximately $3 million preconstruction phase of the Tahoe Cedars Water Reconstruction Project under a Progressive Design-Build (PDB) contract. This marks Granite’s first PDB contract in California—a key milestone for the company. Engineering firm DOWL, LLC has been named the Designer-of-Record.

Located in Tahoma, California, along the west shore of Lake Tahoe, the project is aimed at modernizing aging water infrastructure originally built in the 1940s. The scope includes:

  • Replacing 15 miles of deteriorating and undersized water mains
  • Relocating 632 backyard water service lines to the street
  • Installing 97 fire hydrants to bolster fire protection
  • Adding over 1,000 residential water meters

“We’re honored to be awarded this important project and excited to deliver Granite’s first Progressive Design-Build contract in California,” said Chris Burke, Vice President of Regional Operations at Granite. “We look forward to working collaboratively with TCPUD and DOWL to enhance water infrastructure for the Tahoe Cedars community.”

Preconstruction activities began in Spring 2025 and will continue through early 2026. The full construction phase, estimated at $60 million, is slated to begin in May 2026 and continue through 2029.
