MITER Foundation Expands Volunteer Efforts to Celebrate National Volunteer Week
The MITER Foundation is marking National Volunteer Week, held from April 19–25, 2026, with an expanded series of volunteer initiatives and community-focused activities. The effort underscores the organization’s long-standing commitment to making a meaningful impact in the communities where its team members live and work.
As part of this year’s celebration, the foundation—supported by MITER Brands—is actively participating in and sponsoring a variety of events across multiple locations. These include an Adopt-A-Highway roadside cleanup in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; a Gold Star Monument dedication ceremony in the same city; the Clays for a Cause charity clay shoot in Hegins, Pennsylvania; and the Education Foundation of Sarasota County’s Ringling Bridge 5K/10K Run in Sarasota, Florida. Each of these activities reflects the foundation’s broader mission to support communities through hands-on engagement and meaningful partnerships.
For MITER Foundation, volunteerism is not treated as a one-time initiative but rather as a core part of its organizational culture. According to Amanda Klinger, Program Manager for the foundation, volunteering plays a vital role in connecting employees with the communities they serve. It also fosters a sense of personal responsibility and engagement among team members, encouraging them to contribute in ways that go beyond their professional roles.
In line with this philosophy, MITER Brands has expanded its companywide volunteer program. Team members across all locations are now allocated up to 40 hours of paid volunteer time annually. This initiative enables employees to actively participate in community service without sacrificing their work commitments, further embedding volunteerism into the company’s day-to-day operations.
The MITER Foundation was established in 2015 by a group of 10 employees in Pennsylvania with the goal of supporting four key areas: community outreach, support for military heroes, children’s well-being, and cancer-related causes. What began as a small, employee-driven initiative has since grown into a nationwide effort with a significant footprint.
Today, the foundation operates through 16 regional committees across the United States, involving hundreds of team members. Its reach has expanded from primarily local efforts in Pennsylvania to initiatives spanning 42 states. Over the years, employees have collectively contributed nearly 40,000 hours of volunteer service, demonstrating a sustained and growing commitment to giving back.
In addition to volunteer work, fundraising remains a major component of the foundation’s activities. In 2025, the MITER Foundation achieved record-breaking results through its two annual charity golf tournaments held in Pennsylvania and Arizona. These events raised more than $5.4 million, marking the highest total in the foundation’s history.
The tournaments serve as the cornerstone of the foundation’s fundraising efforts, attracting over 900 participants each year. Beyond golf, the events feature a range of activities, including clay shooting, off-road UTV experiences, banquets, and charity auctions. These gatherings not only generate significant financial support but also strengthen relationships among employees, partners, and community stakeholders.
The funds raised are directed toward a network of national and local nonprofit organizations aligned with the foundation’s mission. Among its key national partners are St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Ronald McDonald House Charities, Homes For Our Troops, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, American Humane, The Woody Williams Foundation, Simon’s Heart, and No Person Left Behind.
In addition to these national partnerships, the foundation’s regional committees actively collaborate with local charities and community groups. This dual approach allows MITER Foundation to address both large-scale national issues and specific local needs, ensuring a well-rounded and impactful giving strategy.
According to Matt DeSoto, Board Chair of MITER Foundation, the organization’s guiding principle has remained consistent since its inception: creating opportunities that positively impact people’s lives. This mission is reflected in both its volunteer initiatives and its financial contributions, all of which are driven by the passion and generosity of its team members.
DeSoto emphasized that while the foundation has achieved significant milestones, there is still much work to be done. The organization remains focused on expanding its reach, strengthening its partnerships, and increasing its overall impact in the years ahead.
As National Volunteer Week highlights the importance of service and community engagement, MITER Foundation’s efforts stand as an example of how corporate-backed initiatives can drive meaningful change. By combining structured programs, employee participation, and strategic partnerships, the foundation continues to build on its legacy of giving while inspiring others to contribute to their communities.
Looking forward, MITER Foundation aims to further enhance its volunteer programs and deepen its commitment to the four core pillars that define its mission. With growing participation and continued support from MITER Brands, the foundation is well-positioned to make an even greater difference—one volunteer effort at a time.
