Western Sydney Road Reconfiguration Project Completed

CPB Contractors, in joint venture with Georgiou, has successfully completed a critical road reconfiguration as part of Transport for NSW’s M12 Motorway West project. The 56-hour shutdown of the Elizabeth Drive and Badgerys Creek Road intersection in Western Sydney represents a significant advancement in preparing the region’s transport infrastructure for the opening of the Western Sydney International Airport.

The works involved the removal of the M12 West roundabout on Elizabeth Drive and included kerb installation, barrier and gantry installation, new street lighting, ITS cabling, landscaping, and shared path improvements. The new intersection was also fully commissioned during the shutdown. As part of the reconfiguration, over 11 kilometres of new line marking were applied, replacing approximately 7 kilometres of existing markings.

CPB Contractors Area Manager Gavin Wilson, who led the planning and execution of the shutdown, commended the efforts of all involved:
“This was an outstanding demonstration of teamwork and commitment. Our project team, subcontractors, and support teams worked tirelessly across the weekend to ensure safe and timely delivery,” said Wilson.

The shutdown mobilized more than 50 personnel working in rotating day and night shifts, logging over 1,625 hours to complete the operation.

With the intersection now operating in its final configuration, remaining works include the removal of temporary barriers, final asphalt paving, and installation of permanent line markings.

The M12 Motorway West package includes the construction of a 6-kilometre dual carriageway between The Northern Road at Luddenham and a point 400 metres east of Badgerys Creek. The project also features 11 new bridges and a grade-separated interchange connecting directly to the Western Sydney International Airport.
