VINCI Energies, a global leader in energy and information technology services and a subsidiary of the VINCI Group, has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Zimmer & Hälbig, a respected German company specializing in high-performance HVAC-R systems. The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions, including approval from the German competition authorities. This strategic acquisition is set to bolster VINCI Energies’ presence and capabilities in one of its most important international markets—Germany.
A Strategic Acquisition in HVAC-R Excellence
Founded in 1974 and headquartered in Bielefeld, North Rhine-Westphalia, Zimmer & Hälbig has earned a solid reputation over the past five decades for delivering advanced heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC-R) solutions. The company is recognized for its ability to design, engineer, install, and maintain highly specialized technical systems tailored to the needs of mission-critical environments such as hospitals, laboratories, industrial facilities, clean rooms, and data centers.
With a workforce of 310 employees operating across seven locations—Bielefeld, Hanau, Hanover, Cologne, Leipzig, Osnabrück, and Tuttlingen—Zimmer & Hälbig reported a turnover of €96 million in 2024. Its customer-centric approach and technical competence have positioned it as a trusted partner in the field of mechanical building services and complex climate control systems.
The planned integration of Zimmer & Hälbig into the German network of VINCI Energies Building Solutions companies will allow VINCI to reinforce its multi-technical service offering. The acquisition is in line with the Group’s strategic goal of expanding its presence in high-demand sectors and delivering comprehensive building systems solutions across the German market.
Enhancing VINCI Energies’ Building Solutions Portfolio
With this acquisition, Zimmer & Hälbig will join a network of 150 Building Solutions companies operated by VINCI Energies in Germany. This move will further consolidate VINCI Energies’ expertise in building technology services while broadening the company’s offering across several high-growth sectors, including healthcare infrastructure, industrial innovation, and data center construction.
The integration also brings with it a valuable pool of engineering talent and technical specialists, who will contribute to the development of sustainable and intelligent building systems. VINCI Energies aims to foster synergies between its newly acquired and existing entities, driving innovation, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction in building solutions.
As sustainability and energy performance become increasingly central to construction and facility management, Zimmer & Hälbig’s technical know-how will support VINCI’s ambition to provide environmentally responsible solutions tailored to modern demands for efficiency and compliance.
VINCI Energies in Germany: A Pillar of the Group’s Global Strategy
Germany represents VINCI’s second-largest international market, reflecting the country’s central role in Europe’s infrastructure, industrial, and energy transformation. In 2024, the VINCI Group generated nearly €5.6 billion in revenue from its operations in Germany, underscoring its commitment to long-term growth in the region.
Of this amount, €4.1 billion came from energy services, with VINCI Energies contributing €3.4 billion and Cobra IS, a key player in large-scale energy infrastructure, generating €700 million. The remainder of the group’s revenue in Germany—€1.4 billion—was contributed by VINCI Construction, which remains active across civil engineering, building construction, and specialized contracting.
VINCI Concessions also plays an important role in the country. It is engaged in managing five public-private partnership (PPP) motorway projects and has begun expanding into Germany’s growing electric vehicle charging infrastructure market. This diverse portfolio underlines VINCI’s role in shaping Germany’s transport, energy, and building ecosystems.
Expanding Capabilities in Critical Sectors
By bringing Zimmer & Hälbig into its fold, VINCI Energies will deepen its service capabilities across critical infrastructure sectors. The acquired company’s focus on clean room technology, climate-controlled environments, and facility engineering aligns closely with increasing demand for technical facilities in healthcare, research, semiconductor manufacturing, and cloud computing.

In particular, data centers have emerged as a key growth area. As demand for digital infrastructure accelerates globally, particularly in Europe’s highly connected economies, Germany is witnessing a construction boom in edge and hyperscale data centers. HVAC-R systems play a critical role in ensuring uptime and thermal management in such facilities, making Zimmer & Hälbig’s expertise particularly valuable.
Healthcare is another priority sector. With rising investments in public health infrastructure and the modernization of hospitals, Germany requires highly specialized HVAC-R solutions to meet stringent hygiene, air filtration, and environmental standards. Through Zimmer & Hälbig, VINCI Energies will be well-positioned to capture a growing share of these technical building contracts.
A Shared Vision for Innovation and Excellence
The acquisition of Zimmer & Hälbig fits within VINCI Energies’ global strategy to grow through targeted acquisitions that bring added value in terms of expertise, market coverage, and innovation. The two companies share a commitment to high-quality engineering, operational reliability, and customer satisfaction, ensuring a seamless integration process and cultural alignment.
Moreover, the acquisition supports VINCI’s wider mission to be a driving force in the energy transition and digital transformation of cities and industries. Both companies prioritize sustainable development, energy efficiency, and smart technologies, key pillars that will shape the future of the built environment.
The technical workforce at Zimmer & Hälbig will benefit from being part of a larger global organization, with access to broader career development opportunities, digital tools, and international collaboration platforms. For customers, this transition promises continuity in service quality with access to a more diversified portfolio of building technology solutions.
