A 6-Year Contract: VINCI Subsidiary Nuvia Awarded Major Dismantling Project for Ringhals Nuclear Power Plant in Sweden
Swedish energy company Vattenfall has granted Nuvia, a subsidiary of VINCI Construction, a significant contract for the dismantling of units 1 and 2 at the Ringhals nuclear power plant in Sweden.
Over the course of the 6-year contract, Nuvia will be responsible for the comprehensive dismantling, control, and sorting of all materials, including radioactive ones, within the specified reactor buildings. The extensive project, scheduled from 2025 to 2031, will engage a workforce of up to 400 individuals.
Nuvia, operating in Sweden through its local subsidiary Nuvia Nordic AB, boasts a proven track record in nuclear dismantling projects within the country. In 2022, Nuvia had previously secured a contract (lot 5) to dismantle the large elements of the primary circuit in one of the two units at the power plant.
Situated 60 km south of Gothenburg, the Ringhals nuclear power plant played a significant role in producing 220 TWh of electricity from its commissioning in 1976 until the final shutdown of unit 1 in 2020. This output equates to the total electricity consumption of the city over the same period. Ringhals 3 and 4, the remaining reactors, continue to contribute approximately 12% to the country’s electricity production.
