Trex Company Names Zachary C. Lauer as Chief Operations Officer

Trex Company, Inc, the world’s largest manufacturer of wood-alternative composite decking and railing, and a recognized leader in high-performance, low-maintenance outdoor living solutions, has announced the appointment of Zachary C. Lauer as Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer.

This strategic leadership move reflects Trex’s continued focus on strengthening its operational capabilities as the company scales its business and advances its long-term growth objectives. In his new role, Lauer will be responsible for overseeing the company’s manufacturing, supply chain, engineering, and research and development (R&D) functions, ensuring alignment across core operational areas while driving efficiency, innovation, and quality improvements.

Lauer brings more than 20 years of extensive experience in operations, supply chain management, and manufacturing leadership. Notably, he has already spent a significant portion of his career—approximately a decade—at Trex, where he has played a key role in shaping and optimizing the company’s operational framework. Most recently, he served as Senior Vice President of Supply Chain and Manufacturing, where he was responsible for enhancing production efficiency, improving logistics coordination, and supporting the company’s expanding product portfolio.

Prior to that role, Lauer held the position of Group Vice President of Supply Chain at Trex, where he contributed to strengthening end-to-end supply chain operations. Over the years, he has also held several progressive leadership positions within the organization, including Vice President and Senior Director roles, demonstrating consistent growth and deep institutional knowledge of the company’s operations and culture.

Commenting on the appointment, Adam Zambanini, President and Chief Executive Officer of Trex Company, highlighted Lauer’s strong leadership capabilities and operational expertise. He emphasized that Lauer’s long-standing experience within the organization, combined with his proven ability to enhance manufacturing performance and supply chain resilience, positions him well to support the company’s strategic priorities.

According to Zambanini, Lauer has demonstrated a strong ability to balance operational efficiency with innovation, particularly in areas such as product development and process optimization. This combination is expected to play a critical role as Trex continues to expand its market presence and deliver sustainable, high-quality outdoor living products to customers worldwide.

Before joining Trex, Lauer built a solid foundation of experience across several major industrial companies. He held senior roles in supply chain, manufacturing, and engineering at Newell Rubbermaid (now Newell Brands), a global consumer goods company known for its diverse portfolio of household brands. During his time there, he gained valuable experience in large-scale manufacturing operations and global supply chain systems.

He also worked at Federal-Mogul, an international supplier of automotive and industrial products, where he further strengthened his expertise in engineering-driven manufacturing environments. These roles helped him develop a broad understanding of complex operational systems and global production networks, which he later brought to his leadership roles at Trex.

Lauer’s academic background further supports his technical and leadership capabilities. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Military Academy, a foundation that reflects his strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Additionally, he earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Villanova University, equipping him with advanced knowledge in business strategy, leadership, and organizational management.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Lauer stated that he is honored to take on the expanded responsibility within the company. He emphasized his commitment to working closely with Trex’s teams across operations, engineering, and R&D to further strengthen the company’s performance and capabilities. He also highlighted his focus on enhancing quality, improving safety standards, and accelerating innovation across the organization.

In his new capacity as Chief Operations Officer, Lauer will be central to driving operational excellence at Trex. His leadership will focus on optimizing manufacturing processes, strengthening supply chain resilience, and advancing research and development initiatives that support product innovation. These efforts are expected to contribute significantly to Trex’s ability to meet growing market demand while maintaining its reputation for sustainability and product durability.

Trex has long positioned itself as a pioneer in the composite decking industry, offering environmentally responsible alternatives to traditional wood products. The company’s commitment to sustainability, combined with its focus on innovation and operational efficiency, has helped it maintain a strong leadership position in the outdoor living market.

With Lauer stepping into this expanded leadership role, Trex is reinforcing its commitment to building a strong operational foundation that supports long-term growth. His deep understanding of the company’s internal processes, combined with his external industry experience, is expected to enhance collaboration across departments and drive continued improvements in performance and productivity.

As the outdoor living sector continues to evolve, Trex aims to remain at the forefront of innovation, sustainability, and customer satisfaction. The appointment of Zachary C. Lauer as Chief Operations Officer marks a significant step in ensuring that the company remains well-positioned to meet future challenges and opportunities in a competitive global market.
