Thiess Wins A$2.3 Billion Extension for Lake Vermont Mine Contract with Jellinbah Group

Global mining services provider Thiess has secured a three-year contract extension valued at A$2.3 billion with Jellinbah Group for continued operations at the Lake Vermont Mine, located near Dysart in Queensland’s Bowen Basin.

This new agreement, which extends Thiess’ operations at the site through to June 2028, replaces the existing contract previously set to expire in 2026. Under the extended contract, Thiess will continue delivering comprehensive mining services, including statutory site operations, mine engineering, all mining activities, equipment maintenance and asset management, rehabilitation works, and the operation of Jellinbah Group’s handling and preparation plant, train load-out facility, and mining camp.

Thiess has been involved with Lake Vermont since 2007, when it was awarded the initial mining contract after constructing the mine’s infrastructure. Over the years, Thiess has maintained a long-term, collaborative partnership with Jellinbah, supporting the mine’s development and expansion through several contract renewals.

Michael Wright, Thiess Group Executive Chair and CEO, commented:
“For nearly two decades, Thiess has partnered with Jellinbah Group to enhance and expand operations at Lake Vermont safely. This extension is a testament to our long-standing relationship and our proven ability to deliver efficient, sustainable mining solutions through fluctuating commodity cycles.”

Rae O’Brien, Thiess Group Executive for Australia East, added:
“We’re proud of the innovations introduced at Lake Vermont over the years, including industry-leading autonomous drilling, semi-autonomous dozing, and strategic mine planning. Our efforts have consistently focused on delivering value to Jellinbah while fostering strong ties with the local Dysart community through employment, procurement, and partnerships with schools and organisations like the BMA CQ Rescue and the Hear & Say Foundation.”

With a legacy spanning 90 years, Thiess continues to provide a full range of mining, asset management, and rehabilitation services across Australia, Asia, and the Americas, focused on delivering value-driven outcomes for clients and stakeholders.
