STRABAG has been awarded the contract for the replacement of the Uttrichshausen viaduct on the A7 motorway in Hessen, Germany. The contract, valued in the low three-digit million range, is set to begin in August 2024, with completion scheduled for the end of 2029, as stated by DEGES Deutsche Einheit Fernstraßenplanungs- und -bau GmbH.

Enhancing North-South Connectivity
Spanning 962 kilometers, the A7 is Germany’s longest federal motorway. The Uttrichshausen bridge, located south of Fulda, crosses the valley of the Uttrichshausen district in Kalbach. This heavily trafficked viaduct is projected to accommodate approximately 51,000 vehicles daily by 2030.
The contract includes not only the construction of the new bridge but also the dismantling of the two existing structures, which are each 880 meters long and approximately 30 meters wide. Built between 1966 and 1968, these aging bridges must be replaced with a modern structure.
The new viaduct will extend 900 meters and will be constructed in the same location as the current structures. It will feature five-meter-high noise barriers and a noise-mitigating road surface on both sides.
