After eight years at the helm of the Laing O’Rourke Group, Sir John Parker GBE FREng has announced his decision to step down as Group Chair at the close of the Group’s trading year, which will be on 31 March 2025.
On behalf of Laing O’Rourke, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to Sir John for his remarkable contributions to the business. His leadership has been invaluable to our organization, and we are deeply appreciative of his unwavering commitment to our mission. His guidance has been essential in turning our vision and purpose into reality.
In recognition of his significant contribution, Sir John has agreed to continue serving in an ambassadorial capacity, allowing the company to continue benefiting from his extensive experience and wise counsel moving forward.
I am pleased to confirm that I will be stepping into the role of Group Chair effective 1 April 2025. I am excited to collaborate with my son, Cathal O’Rourke, our Group CEO, and our Board members to advance our strategy and continue pushing the boundaries of modern construction. This remains essential in transforming the nature of the work we do, ensuring our business remains forward-thinking and innovative.

Having spent nearly 50 years in the industry, I truly believe that construction is the most dynamic and rewarding sector. However, I also recognize that this is the right moment to take the necessary step to improve the way we deliver major infrastructure projects. This shift will be beneficial not just for our people but also for our clients and delivery partners.
