Soudah Development, a company wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and chaired by His Royal Highness Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Crown Prince and Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, has announced the signing of a landmark agreement valued at more than SAR 1.3 billion with National Grid, a subsidiary of the Saudi Electricity Company. The agreement will support the development and delivery of advanced power infrastructure for Soudah Peaks, one of the Kingdom’s most ambitious tourism and destination development projects.
The strategic partnership represents a major milestone in the realization of Soudah Peaks, an ultra-luxury mountain destination located at an elevation of 3,015 meters above sea level in the Asir region. Designed to redefine luxury tourism through a blend of nature, culture, and sustainability, Soudah Peaks is positioned as a flagship project within Saudi Arabia’s broader vision to diversify its economy, strengthen the tourism sector, and elevate the Kingdom’s global standing as a premium destination.
Under the terms of the agreement, National Grid will be responsible for the design and construction of a fully integrated electrical infrastructure network capable of supporting the project across all development phases. Central to the scope of work is the delivery of a 380/132 kilovolt central substation with a capacity of 500 megavolt-amperes (MVA), alongside two additional 132/13.8 kilovolt high-voltage substations. Together, these assets will form the backbone of the power system for Soudah Peaks, ensuring reliable, resilient, and scalable electricity supply for the destination’s diverse range of uses.
The advanced power infrastructure will support hospitality assets, ultra-luxury residential communities, retail offerings, wellness facilities, commercial zones, and essential public services throughout the development. As Soudah Peaks progresses through its phased rollout, the electrical network will be designed to accommodate future growth, evolving demand patterns, and the integration of sustainability-focused technologies.
Soudah Peaks is envisioned as a year-round destination that harmonizes high-end living with environmental stewardship. The project places a strong emphasis on sustainability, climate sensitivity, and the preservation of the surrounding natural landscape. Establishing robust, future-ready power infrastructure is a critical enabler of these objectives, ensuring uninterrupted operations while supporting energy efficiency, system resilience, and long-term environmental goals.
Commenting on the agreement, Eng. Saleh AlOraini, Chief Executive Officer of Soudah Development, highlighted the strategic importance of the partnership. He stated that the agreement marks a defining step in the journey to develop Soudah Peaks as a world-class destination that embodies ultra-luxury, excellence, and sustainability. By collaborating with National Grid SA, Soudah Development is securing the essential infrastructure foundation required to power all phases of the project and deliver exceptional experiences across tourism, hospitality, wellness, retail, and residential offerings.
Eng. AlOraini further emphasized that the partnership goes beyond infrastructure delivery, reflecting a shared commitment to advancing economic diversification and supporting the Kingdom’s sustainability ambitions. By investing in advanced, future-proof utilities, Soudah Development is reinforcing its role in enabling long-term value creation while contributing to Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 objectives.
Eng. Waleed Al-Saadi, Chief Executive Officer of National Grid SA, described the agreement as a pivotal milestone in the development of the electrical infrastructure for Soudah Peaks. He noted that the project reflects National Grid SA’s firm commitment to supporting major national development initiatives through integrated, high-quality solutions built to the highest standards of efficiency, safety, and reliability.
Eng. Al-Saadi added that the partnership underscores National Grid SA’s central role in enabling luxury tourism destinations and supporting the Kingdom’s expanding economic landscape. By delivering an advanced electrical network tailored to meet the needs of Soudah Peaks across all phases, National Grid SA is reaffirming its ongoing efforts to enhance the readiness, resilience, and sustainability of Saudi Arabia’s power system.
The agreement also aligns closely with broader national priorities to modernize infrastructure, promote private-sector participation, and deliver landmark projects that showcase Saudi Arabia’s capabilities in planning, engineering, and execution. As one of the most elevated destinations in the Kingdom, Soudah Peaks presents unique technical and environmental challenges, making the delivery of reliable power infrastructure both complex and critical to the project’s success.
Through this collaboration, Soudah Development and National Grid SA are laying the groundwork for a destination that integrates luxury, innovation, and sustainability at scale. The SAR 1.3 billion investment in power infrastructure demonstrates a long-term commitment to excellence and operational resilience, ensuring that Soudah Peaks is equipped to meet global standards while offering an unparalleled experience rooted in the natural beauty of the Asir highlands.
As Soudah Peaks continues to take shape, the agreement reinforces confidence in the project’s delivery roadmap and its role as a catalyst for tourism growth, regional development, and economic diversification in line with Saudi Vision 2030.
