SLB OneSubsea Secures Major EPC Contracts from PTTEP for Deepwater Projects Offshore Malaysia
Global energy technology leader SLB (NYSE: SLB) has announced that its joint venture, OneSubsea™, has been awarded two major engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contracts by PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP). These contracts mark a significant step forward in strengthening Malaysia’s offshore energy infrastructure and build upon a 20-year strategic collaboration between SLB and PTTEP.
The newly awarded contracts focus on the expansion of two vital deepwater fields located offshore Malaysia—the Alum, Bemban, and Permai gas fields in Block H, and the Kikeh oil field, Malaysia’s first-ever deepwater oil development. These fields are key contributors to Malaysia’s offshore energy portfolio and play an essential role in supporting the country’s energy transition and long-term production goals.
Under the scope of the EPC awards, SLB OneSubsea will deliver a comprehensive subsea production system (SPS) designed to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and longevity of the field assets. The scope includes the provision of horizontal subsea trees, umbilicals, control systems, and associated services essential for deepwater production. These technologies will not only support reliable extraction operations but also help optimize production rates and extend the lifecycle of existing offshore assets.
Mads Hjelmeland, Chief Executive Officer of SLB OneSubsea, expressed pride in continuing the company’s long-standing partnership with PTTEP, saying:
We are proud to continue our long-standing relationship with PTTEP, which has seen the delivery of more than 50 systems over the past 20 years. By leveraging our experience in complex deepwater environments and adopting a highly collaborative, early engagement process with our clients, we will help PTTEP unlock maximum value from these projects.”
Deepwater Expansion and Strategic Importance
The Block H gas development began production in February 2021 from the Rotan and Buluh gas fields. Located approximately 160 kilometers off the coast of Sabah, these fields form part of Malaysia’s deepwater natural gas hub. The new development phase—covering the Alum, Bemban, and Permai fields—represents the next stage in maximizing Block H’s full production potential.
Meanwhile, the Kikeh oil and gas field, located about 120 kilometers northwest of Labuan Island, began production in 2007. As Malaysia’s first deepwater oil project, Kikeh remains a cornerstone of the nation’s offshore energy landscape. The field is operated by PTTEP Sabah Oil Limited (a subsidiary of PTTEP) and is situated in water depths ranging between 1,100 and 1,300 meters.
The combination of these projects highlights Malaysia’s growing expertise and infrastructure in deepwater field development—a technically demanding domain that requires sophisticated subsea engineering, advanced control systems, and specialized construction expertise. SLB OneSubsea’s role in providing the EPC scope positions it as a vital partner in enhancing Malaysia’s offshore production capacity and maintaining the safety and reliability of its subsea systems.
Technology, Engineering, and Infrastructure
The subsea production systems designed by SLB OneSubsea will integrate cutting-edge automation, digital monitoring, and subsea connectivity technologies. These systems are engineered to withstand high pressures, complex seabed conditions, and corrosive environments typical of deepwater operations.
In addition, OneSubsea’s modular and standardized components enable efficient field expansions and reduced project timelines. The umbilicals and control systems will serve as the central nervous system of the field, linking subsea equipment to surface facilities and allowing for real-time monitoring and control of flow rates, pressure, and temperature.

By incorporating these advanced subsea technologies, the projects are expected to enhance operational reliability while minimizing maintenance requirements and downtime. This aligns with global efforts to ensure sustainable and cost-effective energy extraction in challenging offshore environments.
Long-Term Partnership and Regional Impact
SLB and PTTEP share a long and productive relationship dating back two decades, characterized by joint innovation, technology exchange, and local workforce development. Over the years, OneSubsea has delivered more than 50 subsea systems for PTTEP, demonstrating consistency in engineering excellence and customer satisfaction.
This new contract represents another major investment in Malaysia’s offshore infrastructure—a sector that requires close collaboration between international technology providers and regional operators. The continued partnership not only strengthens Malaysia’s position in the Asia-Pacific energy market but also contributes to regional energy security by ensuring a stable supply of oil and gas for domestic and export needs.
Advancing Energy Security and Sustainability
As the energy industry transitions toward lower-carbon solutions, the development of efficient and technologically advanced subsea systems is increasingly vital. SLB OneSubsea’s EPC delivery approach ensures that PTTEP can optimize its offshore assets while minimizing environmental impact through reduced carbon intensity and improved production efficiency.
By focusing on early engagement, collaborative design, and digital innovation, SLB aims to set new standards in subsea project execution. These methods are designed to maximize the value of every offshore investment—supporting not only profitability but also sustainability and safety.
The awarding of these EPC contracts underscores SLB OneSubsea’s leadership in subsea engineering, construction, and project delivery. The projects will play a key role in advancing Malaysia’s offshore energy production capabilities while reinforcing the strategic relationship between SLB and PTTEP.
With decades of experience and a strong focus on innovation, SLB OneSubsea continues to demonstrate its ability to deliver reliable, efficient, and future-ready subsea solutions that support global energy demand and infrastructure growth.
Through this collaboration, Malaysia strengthens its position as a regional hub for deepwater energy development, driving technological progress and contributing to a sustainable energy future in the Asia-Pacific region.
