Skanska Invests €90M in Helsinki Office Project

Skanska has announced an investment of EUR 90 million, approximately SEK 1 billion, in a new commercial office development project in Helsinki, Finland. The project, named Firdo, will feature a modern, 14-storey building offering approximately 15,000 square meters of flexible and sustainable office space. The construction contract for the project is valued at EUR 55 million, about SEK 630 million, and will be included in Skanska’s Nordic order bookings for the fourth quarter of 2024.

Firdo will be located in Pasila, one of Helsinki’s most dynamic and well-connected districts. Known for its excellent public transport connections and a wide range of services, the area continues to develop as a key business hub. The new office building is designed with tenant comfort and functionality in mind, offering a variety of modern amenities, including conference and lounge areas, a restaurant, a gym, and indoor bicycle parking facilities.

The project places a strong emphasis on sustainability and environmental responsibility. Firdo is targeting certifications under both the WELL and LEED Platinum standards, reflecting its focus on health, well-being, and energy efficiency. The building’s heating and cooling systems will utilize geothermal energy, a solution that significantly reduces emissions compared to traditional energy sources. Additionally, the procurement of construction materials will prioritize minimizing the carbon footprint, aligning with Skanska’s commitment to sustainable development.

As part of the project, Skanska Finland has secured a long-term lease agreement for approximately 5,500 square meters of space within Firdo. This accounts for roughly 37 percent of the building’s total office area. The agreement covers a thirteen-year lease period, and Skanska Finland plans to relocate its head office to Firdo in the second quarter of 2027, once construction is complete.

Construction of Firdo is scheduled to begin in January 2025, with completion anticipated in the second quarter of 2027. The project not only reflects Skanska’s commitment to creating modern, sustainable workspaces but also reinforces its presence in Finland by positioning its own operations within the state-of-the-art development.

The investment in Firdo highlights Skanska’s focus on creating future-ready office buildings that prioritize energy efficiency, sustainability, and adaptability to evolving tenant needs. As one of Finland’s key business centers, Pasila provides an ideal location for a project of this scale and ambition, offering an attractive, well-connected environment for businesses seeking innovative office solutions.

With Firdo, Skanska continues to play a leading role in driving sustainable construction practices in the Nordic region, delivering projects that balance modern design, environmental responsibility, and functionality for end-users.
