Rod Hershberger Joins MITER Brands’ Board of Directors

MITER Brands, a leading manufacturer of residential windows and doors with a focus on new construction and replacement markets, recently appointed Rod Hershberger, co-founder of PGT Custom Windows and Doors and former chairman of PGT Innovations, to its board of directors. The appointment became effective on July 25, 2024.

Expressing his excitement, Hershberger said, “I am thrilled to join the MITER Brands board. Having known the DeSoto family for many years, I’ve always admired their hardworking, entrepreneurial spirit and family-first values. Their dedication to customers, belief in personal business relationships, and encouragement for team members to dream big resonate deeply with me, as these are also core values at PGT Custom Windows and Doors and PGT Innovations. I look forward to contributing to their mission of building the most valued window and door brand in America.”

Hershberger’s journey in the industry began in 1980 when he co-founded VinylTech, a vinyl porch enclosure manufacturing company, with Paul Hostetler. Starting with just three employees in Venice, Florida, the company quickly expanded. By 1987, recognizing the growing demand for reliable windows in Florida, Hershberger and Hostetler established Progressive Glass Technology (PGT) to manufacture windows and doors.

After the devastating impact of Hurricane Andrew in 1992, Hershberger led PGT in developing impact-resistant windows and doors to protect homes from severe storm damage. Under his leadership, PGT became the first company to offer a comprehensive range of impact-resistant products and is now the nation’s leading manufacturer in this category.

After retiring from PGT in 2017, Hershberger continued to serve as the non-employee chairman of the board for PGT Innovations, the parent company of several window and door brands, including PGT Custom Windows and Doors.

“Rod Hershberger’s addition to our board is a significant milestone for MITER Brands,” said Matt DeSoto, CEO of MITER Brands. “Rod is a respected thought leader and innovator in the window and door industry. His deep industry knowledge, combined with his humility and commitment to core values, make him an invaluable asset to our team. We look forward to working together to drive innovation and excellence in the market.”

In addition to his role at MITER Brands, Hershberger is a past chair and member of the Florida Building Commission and serves on various boards in and around Venice, Florida. His current board memberships include the Gulf Coast Community Foundation, where he is a past chair; the Argus Foundation, where he is also a past chair; the Fenestration and Glazing Industry Alliance; and the Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium, where he is a trustee.
