Richard Bouvier, Former Chairman of SAE and Eiffage Construction, Passes Away at 81
Richard Bouvier, a distinguished leader in the construction industry and former chairman of SAE and Eiffage Construction, passed away on December 14, 2024, at the age of 81. Born on January 11, 1943, he leaves behind an enduring legacy marked by exceptional leadership, innovation, and humanity.
A graduate of the prestigious École Polytechnique, Chebap (Centre for Advanced Studies in Reinforced and Prestressed Concrete), and ISG, Bouvier embarked on his career at the construction company Castells in Tarbes, where he was promoted to general manager in 1975.
In 1979, he joined SGE, and later in 1986, he became part of the SAE Group. During this period, Bouvier managed the construction of the World Trade Center in Beijing, an impressive project that underscored his vision and expertise.
By 1991, he was appointed CEO of SAE Industries and simultaneously took on the role of Chairman and CEO of Eiffel, the group’s metal construction division. In 1998, under the leadership of Jean-François Roverato, Bouvier assumed the presidency of SAE.
His career reached new heights in January 2000 when he became chairman of Eiffage Construction. This entity brought together SAE, Fougerolle, Quillery, and their international subsidiaries, forming the Group’s flagship construction brand. Under his leadership, Eiffage Construction flourished, with 15,000 employees and an annual turnover of 17 billion francs at the time.
Richard Bouvier was widely admired by his peers and colleagues, who often described him as a remarkable boss, manager, and engineer. His impact on the construction industry and Eiffage Group remains profound.
Known for his empathy, humility, and attentiveness, Bouvier was deeply committed to the growth and development of his colleagues.
