Keppel’s latest data centre in Singapore, Keppel DC Singapore 8, has earned the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award, the highest green accolade granted by Singapore’s Building and Construction Authority (BCA) for new data centre developments.
Built to Tier 3 equivalent standards, Keppel DC Singapore 8 is a six-storey data centre and the second of three planned complexes within the Keppel Data Centre Campus at 82 Genting Lane. The first complex, Keppel DC Singapore 7, received the prestigious BCA-IMDA Green Mark (Platinum Award) in 2022.
The Keppel Data Centre Campus will achieve an overall Power Usage Effectiveness of about 1.3, promoting the adoption of greener data centre solutions and providing additional capacity to support the growth of Singapore’s digital economy.
Keppel DC Singapore 8 incorporates advanced equipment and designs to reduce water consumption and enhance the energy efficiency of its data hall cooling and facility management systems, enabling more sustainable operations. Innovative construction methods that minimize waste have also been employed in its development.
Mr. Wong Wai Meng, CEO of Data Centres at Keppel, said, “We are honored to receive the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award, which affirms our capability in developing robust and reliable data centre solutions aligned with Singapore’s Green Data Centre Roadmap. As an industry leader, Keppel will continue to leverage our deep domain expertise and industry partnerships to create innovative and energy-efficient solutions that enhance the sustainability of our data centres.”
Mr. Galen Lee, CEO of Keppel Fund Management, added, “Sustainability is integral to how Keppel creates value for our stakeholders, and we are delighted that Keppel DC Singapore 8 has been awarded the BCA Green Mark Platinum Award. As a global asset manager with deep operating capabilities, Keppel is well-positioned to match investor capital with innovative solutions to meet the growing demand for greener data centres.”
Keppel and Cuscaden Peak Investments Private Limited, through their respective subsidiaries, hold a 60:40 stake in a joint venture, Memphis 1 Pte. Ltd., which leases the site where the campus is situated. The development of the first two complexes is partially funded by Keppel’s private fund, Alpha Data Centre Fund, managed by Keppel Fund Management.
Keppel DC Singapore 8 has a net lettable area (NLA) of approximately 100,882 sq ft (9,372 sqm) and is fully leased to clients across the cloud services, internet enterprise, and telecommunications sectors. The strong demand from clients underscores Keppel’s reputation and reliability as a leading provider of scalable data centre solutions.
The completion of Keppel DC Singapore 8 is occurring in phases, with the first phase expected to be ready for service in the third quarter of 2024. Keppel’s Connectivity Division will serve as the operator and facility manager for Keppel DC Singapore 8. With Singapore aiming to provide at least 300 megawatts (MW) of additional capacity in the near term, improving energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint of data centre operations is crucial for Singapore’s sustainable growth as an international digital hub.
