NCC to Refurbish Oslo’s Majorstuen Metro Station for Improved Accessibility and Efficiency
NCC and Sporveien, the operator of Oslo’s metro and tramway system, have entered into an agreement to undertake a comprehensive refurbishment of the Majorstuen metro station in Oslo. The project aims to enhance accessibility within the station, improve its surrounding areas, and upgrade critical infrastructure. The total order value of this project is approximately SEK 350 million.
“The station upgrade is necessary to improve the capacity and efficiency of the Oslo metro,” said Kenneth Nilsson, Head of NCC Infrastructure. “The project consists of multiple disciplines and is therefore well suited to our expertise and our capability to implement infrastructure projects in urban environments.”
The refurbishment involves several key components. NCC will replace existing tracks and upgrade technical systems to enhance operational efficiency. Additional work includes drainage improvements and the expansion and renovation of platforms, ceilings, roofs, ramps, and stairways. Moreover, a new pedestrian and cycle bridge will be constructed over the tracks to the west of the station area, ensuring smoother and safer connections for commuters and cyclists alike.
“Upgrading the Majorstuen station is crucial if the metro is to run more frequently through the center of Oslo in the future,” noted Hanna Rachel Broch, Development Manager at Sporveien. “Sporveien is therefore delighted to sign an agreement with NCC for the main works at Majorstuen station. NCC offered the best combination of price and quality. We now look forward to a busy summer of work in 2025.”
The Majorstuen station serves as a critical hub in Oslo’s public transport network.
