In partnership with the Swedish Transport Administration, NCC is decking over the western mouth of the Göta Tunnel and constructing a ventilation tower in order to facilitate further development of the Masthuggskajen district. The order value is approximately SEK 175 million.
The Göta Tunnel is one of the most important in Gothenburg, with its on- and off-ramps comprising barriers to traffic that make it difficult to get to and from Göta älv from the city center. Decking over the western on- and off-ramps will create spaces that link Göta älv with the Järntorget and Masthuggskajen districts.
NCC has been tasked with decking over the on- and off-ramps at the western mouth of the tunnel and constructing a ventilation tower above an existing culvert. The decking project is a construction contract, with the start of construction planned for August 2024. NCC is responsible for planning and constructing the blower installation for the ventilation tower, and there is also an option in that part of the project to build a steel facade.
“NCC has extensive experience with roads, tunnels and complicated facilities, so this assignment suits us very well. We have a good partnership with the Swedish Transport Administration, and in addition we feel at home in the area around Masthuggskajen, where we also developed and built three office buildings,” says Henrik Gerber, Head of Department for NCC Infrastructure.
The assignment will get underway starting in the summer of 2024 and will be fully completed in the first half of 2026. The project is a construction contract in partnering form for approximately SEK 175 million, and will be registered in the NCC Infrastructure business area in the second quarter.
