Southern California Edison has reached another major milestone in its recovery response following the devastating Eaton Fire, announcing that more than 1,200 claimants have now received compensation payments through the company’s Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program. The initiative was established to help individuals, families, property owners, and businesses recover more quickly from the impacts of the wildfire by providing financial assistance through a streamlined claims process.

The utility company stated that the compensation effort continues to advance steadily, with hundreds of additional claims currently under review or in the payment pipeline. According to the latest update released on May 21, 2026, thousands of claims have already been submitted, and settlement offers totaling hundreds of millions of dollars have been extended to affected community members.

Pedro J. Pizarro, president and chief executive officer of Edison International, the parent company of Southern California Edison, emphasized the importance of timely support for those impacted by the wildfire disaster. He noted that every completed payment represents meaningful progress for residents and businesses working to rebuild their lives after the fire.

Pizarro explained that the company remains focused on handling claims as efficiently and responsibly as possible, recognizing that many individuals continue to face financial and emotional hardships following the disaster. He added that providing prompt assistance is a critical part of the overall recovery effort and helps affected residents begin moving forward more quickly.

The company also revealed that more than 250 individual claimants received payments during the current week alone, highlighting the accelerating pace of the compensation process. Southern California Edison said it continues to dedicate substantial resources to processing claims and delivering financial relief in a timely manner.

As of May 21, the Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program has received nearly 3,400 claims involving approximately 10,200 individuals, trusts, and legal entities. Out of those claims, more than 1,750 settlement offers have already been extended to over 4,300 claimants. The total value of those offers is approaching $600 million, reflecting the significant scale of the recovery initiative.

To date, compensation payments totaling approximately $175 million have already been distributed to more than 1,200 claimants. The company stated that additional payments are actively being processed and are expected to continue over the coming weeks and months as more claims move through the review system.

Southern California Edison designed the Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program to provide a faster and more streamlined alternative to lengthy litigation proceedings that often follow major wildfire incidents. Company officials explained that the program aims to deliver compensation that aligns with settlement values typically seen in similar wildfire-related legal cases while reducing delays and administrative complexity for claimants.

The recovery program covers a broad range of damages and losses associated with the Eaton Fire. Eligible claims include total and partial destruction of residential structures, tenant losses, commercial property damage, business interruption costs, and non-burn-related impacts such as smoke, soot, and ash contamination. The program also addresses claims involving physical injuries and loss of life resulting from the wildfire.

According to the company, one of the program’s key objectives is to simplify the recovery process for affected residents and businesses. Once a claim is fully documented and considered substantially complete, Southern California Edison aims to provide settlement offers within 90 days. Officials noted that many claims are being reviewed even faster than that target timeline.

The company reported that more than 70 percent of settlement offers issued so far have been accepted by claimants, while additional offers remain under consideration. Following acceptance and completion of all settlement agreement conditions, payments are generally issued within 30 days. In many cases, however, payments are reportedly being processed in significantly less time.

Southern California Edison emphasized that participation in the compensation program is entirely voluntary. Claimants who choose to participate can access financial assistance without going through extended court proceedings, though individuals still retain the option to pursue litigation if they decide not to participate in the program.

The utility company also confirmed that the Wildfire Recovery Compensation Program will remain open through Nov. 30, 2026, giving affected residents and organizations additional time to prepare and submit claims.

To support individuals navigating the claims process, Southern California Edison has established multiple assistance channels and multilingual resources. Claimants can access detailed instructions and submit claims through the program’s online portal, which provides information in both English and Spanish.

In addition to digital resources, the company has made one-on-one assistance available through a dedicated support hotline. Representatives are available in multiple languages to help individuals understand eligibility requirements, gather documentation, and complete the claims process. In-person appointments are also being offered for those who prefer direct guidance or require additional support.

Southern California Edison further noted that law firms and organizations representing multiple eligible claimants can utilize a specialized bulk intake process designed to streamline large-scale submissions. This option is intended to improve efficiency for attorneys and advocacy groups working on behalf of wildfire victims.

The Eaton Fire recovery effort remains one of the company’s largest compensation initiatives in recent years, reflecting the widespread impact of the wildfire on homes, businesses, and communities across the affected region. With hundreds of millions of dollars already offered and additional claims continuing to move forward, Southern California Edison says it remains committed to helping residents recover and rebuild in the months ahead.
