(“Huawei”) and Keppel Ltd.’s Infrastructure Division (“Keppel”) have signed a non-binding Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on renewable energy initiatives, with a strong focus on photovoltaic (PV) systems and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) technologies. This partnership underscores both companies’ commitment to supporting the global transition to sustainable energy, addressing increasing electricity demand, and reducing carbon emissions.
The MOU was signed by Mr. Nate Luo Chuan, Vice President and Head of Smart PV at Huawei International, and Mr. Poh Tiong Keng, Executive Director of Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) at Keppel’s Infrastructure Division. The signing was witnessed by Mr. Maxi Wang, CEO of Huawei International, and Ms. Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel’s Infrastructure Division.
Through this partnership, Huawei and Keppel will jointly explore the design and deployment of advanced PV and BESS solutions for selected projects across Asia and beyond. These projects include interconnected power grids in the ASEAN region, low-carbon data centres, industrial parks, and hybrid energy systems. The solutions aim to reduce carbon intensity, enhance operational stability, optimise lifecycle costs, and improve economic outcomes.
A key component of the collaboration is the integration of these renewable energy assets with Keppel’s state-of-the-art Operations Nerve Centre (ONC) at Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi in Singapore. The ONC leverages Keppel’s proprietary artificial intelligence and machine learning (AI/ML) platforms for real-time monitoring, remote control, and performance optimisation of energy systems.
In Singapore, the two companies are also working together on a demand response initiative featuring a BESS developed at Keppel Infrastructure @ Changi. This pilot project will serve as a testbed for smart operations and maintenance technologies, further enhancing the performance and reliability of renewable energy infrastructure.
Looking beyond Singapore, Huawei and Keppel plan to co-develop go-to-market strategies to deliver tailored renewable energy solutions across priority regions.
Mr. Maxi Wang, CEO of Huawei International, stated, “This collaboration marks a significant step forward in driving sustainable energy adoption. By combining Huawei’s advanced digital power technologies with Keppel’s expertise in energy infrastructure, we aim to not only support Singapore’s leadership in green innovation but also catalyse energy transformation across the region. Together, we are committed to delivering smarter, cleaner energy solutions for the future.”
Ms. Cindy Lim, CEO of Keppel’s Infrastructure Division, added, “Overcoming the intermittency of renewables is key to their successful integration. Through our partnership with Huawei, we will develop cutting-edge storage and energy management solutions to boost the reliability and efficiency of renewable systems. Our joint efforts will help optimise cost, enhance safety, and elevate operational standards in both existing and future projects.”
This collaboration supports global sustainability objectives and is aligned with Singapore’s Green Plan 2030, reinforcing efforts to increase renewable energy adoption and improve energy efficiency. It reflects Huawei and Keppel’s shared vision of enabling businesses and communities to transition toward a cleaner, more resilient energy future.
The partnership is not expected to have a material impact on Keppel’s net tangible assets or earnings per share for the current financial year.
