HOCHTIEF Expands European Data Center Strategy with Launch of UK-Based Subsidiary
HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions is accelerating its European data center expansion with the launch of HOCHTIEF Data Center Partner Limited, a new subsidiary aimed at bringing its successful German business model to the UK and Ireland. The newly established company will be headed by Warren Taylor, a seasoned professional in real estate and technology, and will focus on developing a robust network of high-performance, sustainable, and locally integrated data centers across the British Isles.
This strategic move responds to the surging demand for computing capacity and cloud services. According to IMARC, the global edge data center market is expected to grow from approximately USD 13 billion in 2024 to nearly USD 48 billion by 2033, reflecting a 15.6% CAGR. In the UK alone, the cloud services market is forecasted to reach USD 42 billion by 2025, with a projected CAGR of 18.7%, climbing to USD 83 billion by 2029, as reported by Statista.
The formation of HOCHTIEF Data Center Partner Limited aligns with HOCHTIEF’s broader ambition to create a pan-European network of sustainable, decentralized EDGE data centers. This vision is already underway in Germany through YEXIO, HOCHTIEF’s existing data center brand. In partnership with Thomas-Krenn.AG, the company has launched Yorizon, a joint venture that integrates high-performance hardware with cloud computing services designed to uphold digital sovereignty.
The first YEXIO data center is set to open in Heiligenhaus near Essen, Germany, in summer 2025, with four additional sites already secured. These data centers are engineered around a green IT philosophy, prioritizing energy efficiency, eco-friendly construction, and strong regional integration.
Key features include:
- Liquid-based cooling systems
- Utilization of local renewable energy sources
- Integration into municipal heating networks
- Advanced software solutions ensuring top-tier security and compliance
Architecturally, the centers are designed to contribute to sustainable urban development, featuring green façades, timber structures, and high-quality urban design.
“These projects are vital in supporting the digital transformation of small and medium-sized enterprises, strengthening regional data processing infrastructure, and advancing both urban development and climate goals,” says Bernd Holtwick, Member of the Management Board at HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions.
New data center site in the district of Erding
HOCHTIEF PPP Solutions and infrastructure investor Palladio Partners have signed the land purchase agreement for the construction of a YEXIO data center. The high-tech facility will be built on a site of around 7,500 square meters in Dorfen (Erding district near Munich). In addition to providing urgently needed computing capacity for regional companies, the focus is on sustainable operation: the waste heat from the data center will be fed into the municipal utility’s heating network. Construction is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and the building is expected to be commissioned in mid-2027.
