Building on the success of previous classes, the Verquin training center (62) is gearing up to welcome the 2024 cohort of HTB Line Fitters. After a rigorous selection process managed by Eiffage Énergie Systèmes and the Socially Responsible Employers Group (GESR), the new recruits will embark on a two-year continuing education program. This program combines theoretical coursework with practical, hands-on experience, leading to a CQP HTB Line Fitters diploma and a permanent position within the company.
The selection process began with nearly 200 candidates, from which about fifteen were chosen based on technical assessments and individual interviews conducted by GESR, specialists in recruitment, training, and employment within the energy sector.
In the initial six weeks of their training, recruits focused on regulatory requirements and lineman responsibilities, including standards like UTE and safety measures such as lifelines. They engaged in both theoretical and practical training, covering tasks such as setting up lifelines, assembling pylons, placing cables on pulleys, and replacing insulator chains. The training also emphasized managing key risks: electrical hazards (with MALT setup), falls from heights (with lifeline setup and securing rules), and mechanical risks (with force recovery system setup).
According to Christopher Selvanadin, activities manager, “The new lineman class consists of 12 candidates who will undergo a two-year training program. In the first year, they will form a ‘school team’ that will participate in practical site work and return to the Verquin center for debriefing and additional training every two to three weeks. In the second year, these apprentices will join operational teams and be mentored by team tutors.”
Upon completion of the program, the trainees will earn their CQP HTB Line Fitters certification and receive a permanent employment contract within the Energy Systems division. “This program, backed by the GESR, fosters a strong work dynamic and cohesion. While 80% of our workforce is recruited through GESR, we also draw talent from high school outreach and referrals,” concludes Selvanadin.
