Dublin & altafiber Accelerate Fiber Build for Most Homes by 2025

The City of Dublin and altafiber are pleased to announce the acceleration of their ambitious fiber expansion project, ensuring that the majority of single-family homes within Dublin will have access to altafiber’s state-of-the-art multi-gig XGS-PON fiber network by the end of 2025. This marks a significant milestone in their ongoing partnership to enhance broadband infrastructure and provide residents with high-speed, reliable internet service.

Accelerating Fiber Access Across Dublin

Upon completion of this phase, more than 15,000 single-family homes in Dublin will be equipped with high-speed fiber connectivity, allowing residents to take full advantage of digital advancements in employment, education, healthcare, and other essential services. Additionally, altafiber will continue expanding fiber access to multi-dwelling units—including apartments, condominiums, and townhouses—as well as business addresses. This broad deployment will ensure that a greater portion of the community benefits from superior internet speeds and connectivity.

Residents who currently do not have access to altafiber’s fiber network are encouraged to visit altafiber’s website, where they can submit their contact information to receive notifications when fiber service becomes available at their address.

Partnership for a Connected Future

The City of Dublin first announced its strategic partnership with altafiber in 2023, with the goal of significantly enhancing internet access, increasing broadband speeds, and fostering a more competitive service market. Initially, the fiber build-out to single-family homes was projected to be completed by the summer of 2026. However, due to strong collaboration and an efficient implementation strategy between altafiber and the City of Dublin, the project timeline has been accelerated by nearly a year.

Once fully implemented, Dublin will emerge as the first city of its size in central Ohio to have a fully completed fiber-based high-speed broadband network. This initiative, alongside Dublink—a 100-Gig Fiber Optic Network that serves Dublin businesses—solidifies the city’s status as one of the most digitally connected municipalities in the nation.

The Importance of High-Speed Connectivity

Dublin City Manager Megan O’Callaghan underscored the significance of this fiber expansion in enhancing the community’s quality of life and economic growth.

“High-speed internet is no longer a luxury—it is a fundamental necessity for work, education, healthcare, and daily life. Thanks to our strong partnership with altafiber, the Fiber to Every Home initiative is delivering the speed, capacity, and reliability our residents and businesses need to stay competitive and connected, both now and in the future,” O’Callaghan said. “By accelerating this project, we are driving innovation, expanding economic opportunities, and improving quality of life across Dublin.”

The benefits of high-speed fiber internet extend beyond individual homes and businesses. Fast, reliable connectivity is crucial for remote work, online learning, telemedicine, and access to essential services. It also plays a vital role in attracting businesses and supporting economic development, ensuring that Dublin remains a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Public-Private Partnerships as a Model for Success

Jason Praeter, President of Consumer & Small Business at altafiber, highlighted the effectiveness of public-private collaborations in addressing broadband accessibility gaps.

“The City of Dublin’s leadership and forward-thinking approach have been instrumental in making this initiative a reality,” Praeter said. “This project is a prime example of how public-private partnerships can successfully bring future-proof, gigabit-speed internet to communities that lack competitive broadband options. Thanks to Dublin’s vision, this city will have a robust internet infrastructure that supports remote work, virtual learning, telemedicine, and countless other essential online activities. Additionally, high-speed connectivity is a key factor in economic development efforts aimed at retaining and attracting businesses. We are excited to continue working alongside the City of Dublin and its residents for many years to come.”

altafiber’s Expanding Footprint

As the leading provider of fiber-based services in Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky, altafiber has invested approximately $2 billion into its fiber network infrastructure. The company operates an extensive fiber network spanning more than 16,000 route miles throughout the Midwest. In Greater Cincinnati alone, altafiber provides fiber-based services to nearly 100 percent of business and single-family home addresses.

Dublin’s fiber expansion aligns with altafiber’s broader commitment to bridging the digital divide and ensuring communities have access to cutting-edge connectivity solutions. The company has consistently invested in expanding its fiber network to bring high-speed, reliable internet access to underserved and growing regions.

What This Means for Dublin Residents

The accelerated fiber expansion in Dublin will bring numerous advantages to residents, businesses, and the broader community, including:

  • Ultra-fast Internet Speeds: Multi-gigabit internet speeds will enable seamless streaming, video conferencing, online gaming, and high-bandwidth applications.
