Persimmon Homes Donates £1,000 to Support Sustainable Didcot
Persimmon Homes Wessex awarded the donation to Sustainable Didcot through its Community Champions programme, which provides funding to local charities and organisations across the UK. The group, run mainly by volunteers, focuses on protecting the environment and strengthening community ties through a range of sustainable initiatives.
Sustainable Didcot runs projects such as a local repair café, a clothing exchange, a “Borrow Library,” an allotment scheme, and community workshops. It also engages with local groups to promote environmentally responsible practices and build resilience within the community.
Commenting on the donation, Pauline Fletcher, Sales Director at Persimmon Homes Wessex, said:
“Persimmon is very proud of our environmental credentials—both in the sustainable features we build into our homes and the biodiversity measures we implement on and off-site.
We’re pleased to support a group like Sustainable Didcot, especially with our growing presence at Valley Park. Their projects are a real asset to the local community and align well with our values.”
Valley Park, located in western Didcot, offers a selection of two, three, and four-bedroom homes starting at £245,995. The new development will feature a range of facilities, including two primary schools, a special educational needs (SEN) school, community centres, and sports facilities. All homes will incorporate sustainable features such as solar panels, air source heat pumps, and electric vehicle charging points.
Each year, Persimmon donates £700,000 to community organisations through its Community Champions initiative. Other recent recipients in the region include the 12th Didcot Scouts Group, Sustainable Wantage, and the Oxford Careers Festival.
Di Chesterman, Chair of Sustainable Didcot, expressed her gratitude:
“We’re thrilled to be selected as one of Persimmon’s Community Champions, especially given their significant role in the town.
This generous support will help us expand our work and increase the services we provide to the community. We’re extremely grateful for the recognition and the funding.”
