Criterion Real Estate Capital, a seasoned real estate investment manager, has announced the addition of Adam Matos as Managing Director and Ben Milde as Chief Operating Officer to its leadership team. These appointments strengthen the firm’s expertise in institutional real estate debt, equity capital markets, and investment strategies as it prepares for accelerated growth. Additionally, Brett Kantor, who has been with Criterion since 2014, has been promoted to Managing Director.
“As a special situations investor, the market conditions we see are ideal for our differentiated investment platform,” said Chuck Rosenzweig, Criterion’s Founder and Managing Partner.
In their new roles, Matos and Milde will work closely with Kantor and Rosenzweig to advance Criterion’s strategy of investing in prime assets in U.S. gateway markets through structured high-yield debt, preferred equity, joint venture equity, and other capital solutions. Since its inception in 2010, Criterion has invested over $1 billion in equity capital and recently closed its latest discretionary fund with commitments from diverse investors.
Matos joins Criterion from Safehold Inc., where he was Senior Vice President responsible for sourcing and underwriting long-term leased fee positions. He brings over 20 years of experience, including a seven-year tenure at Safehold’s predecessor, iStar, where he invested over $3 billion in commercial real estate.
Milde, with more than 25 years in commercial real estate, previously served as Managing Director and Head of Commercial Mortgage Originations at Citigroup and Allegiant Real Estate Capital, and Senior Managing Director at Bear Stearns.
Criterion’s strategic approach, coupled with its ability to structure complex transactions, positions the firm to capitalize on current market conditions, including elevated interest rates and a significant volume of pending loan maturities.
