Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE: AMRC), a leading cleantech integrator specializing in energy efficiency and renewable energy, has partnered with Columbia County to complete the renovation of the historic John Gumm building. This project is a major achievement for Columbia County, reflecting its commitment to preserving historic infrastructure while enhancing functionality to better serve the community.
“This project isn’t just about preserving an old building—it’s about creating a space for our administrative offices, supporting local businesses, and honoring our history. We are proud of how far we have come and look forward to seeing this facility serve Columbia County for years to come,” said Casey Garrett, Columbia County Commissioner.
The renovation involved significant upgrades, including new interior finishes, HVAC and lighting improvements, structural enhancements, and restoring the building’s original windows to boost energy efficiency while retaining its historical charm. The addition of a new elevator ensures accessibility for all visitors, while exterior repairs and landscaping create a welcoming environment.
The revitalized John Gumm building now serves as a central hub for Columbia County, featuring an auditorium for public meetings, the Small Business Development Center (SBDC), the Columbia-Pacific Economic Development District, the Columbia County Museum, and office space for various county departments. These improvements provide better access to public services, support small business growth, and offer cultural enrichment for the community.
“This project is part of Columbia County’s larger effort to modernize its facilities,” added Garrett. Future plans include adding rooftop solar panels and battery storage, furthering the county’s commitment to sustainability and climate resilience.
“Seeing the John Gumm building come to life again is something we’re really proud of,” said Lou Maltezos, Executive Vice President of Ameresco. “We’re excited to see how these improvements will support the community for years to come.”
