Champions Retreat Golf Club Unveils First Phase of Multi-Million-Dollar Transformation
Champions Retreat Golf Club, the world’s only golf property featuring individually designed courses by legends Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and Gary Player, has completed the first phase of a major multi-million-dollar transformation aimed at elevating the overall member and guest experience. The renovation marks a significant milestone in the club’s evolution under Arcis Golf, which acquired the property in 2023.
The first phase of the project focuses on enhancing hospitality, dining, and social spaces across the campus, while preserving the club’s identity rooted in championship golf and Southern hospitality. A second phase, currently underway, will include upgrades to the golf courses and practice facilities and is expected to be completed later this fall.
According to Arcis Golf leadership, the transformation is designed to do more than modernize facilities—it aims to redefine how members experience the club from arrival to departure.
“With this first phase of renovations, we’re not just updating spaces—we’re creating a sense of place that honors our heritage and elevates every moment on property,” said Blake Walker, Founder, Chairman, and CEO of Arcis Golf. “This is only the beginning, as we look ahead to even greater enhancements in the months to come.”
At the center of the renovation is the reimagined Grille House, which has been redesigned into three distinct dining and social venues, each offering a unique atmosphere and purpose.
The upper level of the Grille House has been transformed into “Three Kings,” an exclusive members-only speakeasy inspired by the legacy of Nicklaus, Palmer, and Player. Conceived as a hidden, intimate gathering space, Three Kings is accessed through a discreet stairway entrance, reinforcing its private and elevated character. Designed with a classic lounge aesthetic reminiscent of the prohibition era, the venue encourages relaxed conversation and post-round camaraderie among members.
Complementing this space is a newly redesigned Private Dining Room, which now serves as an elegant extension of the main dining area. The room features custom-built wine displays showcasing curated collections, along with expanded seating designed to accommodate both intimate gatherings and special club events. The design emphasizes refinement while maintaining a welcoming, club-focused atmosphere.
On the lower level of the Grille House, the Champions Room has been fully reimagined as the club’s primary dining and bar destination. The space now highlights Champions Retreat’s architectural identity and golfing heritage, with custom trophy displays lining the walls as a tribute to the club’s legacy. The updated design blends tradition with modern comfort, creating a central hub for dining and social interaction.
Nearby, The Barn has also undergone a refresh, with updated furnishings and a flexible design that allows it to host a wide range of special events. The space is intended to serve as a versatile venue for gatherings, celebrations, and curated culinary experiences. Plans are also in place for a kitchen renovation beginning this summer. Once completed, The Barn will function as a “culinary laboratory,” featuring an open-concept kitchen and a newly added bar area to enhance pre-function and private dining experiences.
Beyond dining and entertainment upgrades, Champions Retreat has also introduced a new concierge and cottage check-in area within the Locker House. This addition is designed to provide arriving members with a seamless and elevated welcome experience, reinforcing the club’s commitment to luxury service from the moment guests arrive on property.
Champions Retreat operates as a private club with both local and national membership, and its unique structure includes seasonal access for non-members. Each spring, the club opens to the public for one week, offering a rare opportunity for outside guests to experience its three championship courses and signature hospitality offerings.
For most of the year, member life at the club centers around “The Foursquare,” a thoughtfully designed collection of cottages and shared gathering spaces. The property includes 84 guest rooms distributed across 14 cottages, each offering four- and eight-bedroom ensuite configurations. These accommodations are designed to support both individual stays and group experiences, reinforcing the club’s emphasis on community and connection.
As the transformation continues into its second phase, Champions Retreat is positioning itself as a modern private club experience rooted in tradition but designed for the future. With enhanced amenities, elevated dining concepts, and ongoing golf course improvements, the club is entering a new era focused on redefining luxury, hospitality, and the member experience in private golf environments.
