Champion Homes Joins Innovative Village Initiative to Address Homelessness in Central California

Champion Homes proudly announces the grand opening of The Neighborhood Village, a pioneering development aimed at combating homelessness. On September 26, 2024, a ribbon-cutting ceremony marked the official opening of this new model for permanent supportive housing in Goshen, California, where all residential units are now occupied.

“Champion Homes was an excellent choice for housing in The Neighborhood Village,” said Adrianne Hillman, Founder and CEO of Salt + Light Works.

The Troy-based manufactured and modular home builder constructed all 53 residential units on the 6.5-acre site, utilizing homes built at Champion Homes’ Lindsay, California, manufacturing facility under the Redman Homes brand.

The Neighborhood Village is California’s first fully permanent supportive housing community specifically designed for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. The community features a variety of neighborhood amenities, including a park, library, and outdoor theater, along with several wellness and training programs:

  • Fully staffed, wraparound neighbor care services on-site
  • On-site job opportunities
  • Training programs

“We’re honored to be part of this effort,” said Champion Homes President and CEO Mark Yost. “More than a million people experience homelessness each year in the U.S., and developments like The Neighborhood Village are crucial in providing life-saving housing and essential services that can transform lives.”

The Neighborhood Village is the vision of Salt + Light Works, a designated public benefit organization focused on transforming the lives of Californians at risk of or experiencing homelessness. The organization provides not just housing but also case management, work opportunities, and outreach programs. TNV is a collaboration between Salt + Light Works and Self Help Enterprises, a local non-profit affordable housing developer with over 60 years of experience in Central California.

“Champion Homes was an excellent choice for housing in The Neighborhood Village,” Hillman added. “Their local factory in Lindsay, just 20 miles away, made their manufactured homes accessible and affordable, which was vital for bringing this project to fruition.”

Collaborating organizations include Tulare County’s Board of Supervisors and Health and Human Services Agency, the Housing and Community Services Employment Training (CSET), the Department of Housing and Community Development of California, the Kings-Tulare Homeless Alliance, Adventist Health, the City of Tulare, Anthem, Health Net, and many others.
