At Bentley Systems’ 2024 Year in Infrastructure Conference, Bentley Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: BSY), a leader in infrastructure engineering software, shared its vision for open data ecosystems as a key driver for advancing infrastructure engineering. During the event, Bentley executives and global infrastructure leaders discussed how open data can streamline project delivery and improve asset performance.
“The future of infrastructure engineering is wide open,” said Nicholas Cumins, Bentley CEO. “It’s agile, collaborative, and built on securely shared data. Bentley is leading this evolution, ensuring our platforms and solutions meet the growing needs of the industry.”
Cumins emphasized the need for breaking down data silos and enabling secure data flow to address challenges like expanding energy networks, modernizing transportation, and meeting sustainability goals.
Open Data Ecosystems
Bentley’s vision for open data ecosystems enables collaboration across tools, teams, and platforms. Bentley’s Base Infrastructure Schema allows data to be organized and reused efficiently. “Openness is not just a feature—it’s a necessity,” Cumins noted, encouraging organizations to adopt Bentley’s sophisticated framework.
Expanding Geospatial Capabilities
Bentley’s partnership with Google, announced at the event, integrates Google’s geospatial data with Bentley’s infrastructure software, allowing users to access comprehensive geospatial information. This complements Bentley’s acquisition of Cesium, an open 3D geospatial platform, enhancing digital twin capabilities for real-world infrastructure visualization.
AI as a Paradigm Shift
Cumins highlighted AI’s potential to transform infrastructure sectors by analyzing massive amounts of data for better decision-making. Bentley’s digital twin solutions, powered by AI, help optimize infrastructure operations and improve asset performance by identifying maintenance issues and automating repetitive tasks. Bentley also introduced OpenSite+, an AI-powered land-use design application that enhances productivity.
Bentley Asset Analytics
Cumins unveiled Bentley Asset Analytics, a new portfolio that integrates AI to improve asset performance by automating road maintenance and infrastructure management tasks. The portfolio includes solutions like Blyncsy for road maintenance and OpenTower iQ for managing telecommunications towers.
Looking forward, Cumins encouraged the industry to embrace AI and open data ecosystems for more sustainable and resilient infrastructure. “Together, we are laying the foundation for a future where open data and AI work seamlessly to create a better quality of life for generations to come.”
