Bentley, Google Partner on Infrastructure Analytics

Bentley Systems, Incorporated, a global leader in infrastructure engineering software, has announced the launch of new asset analytics capabilities that integrate Imagery Insights from Google Maps Platform. This initiative, revealed at Google Cloud Next 2025, aims to transform how roadway conditions are detected, analyzed, and maintained. Bentley’s advanced AI-powered Blyncsy platform, which leverages crowdsourced imagery for automated roadway asset detection and inspection, will now harness the capabilities of Google’s panoramic imagery and Vertex AI to offer a new level of precision and efficiency in infrastructure asset management.

The integration is part of a broader strategic partnership between Bentley and Google, initiated in October 2024, to merge Google’s rich geospatial data with Bentley’s robust engineering software. The collaboration is designed to empower infrastructure professionals to improve how transportation systems are designed, constructed, and maintained. Through this partnership, Bentley and Google aim to deliver smarter, data-driven insights to departments of transportation (DOTs), engineering firms, and consultants working to enhance public safety and infrastructure resilience.

Google’s Imagery Insights, a groundbreaking offering that combines Street View’s global panoramic imagery with the capabilities of Vertex AI, brings immense value to Bentley’s Blyncsy solution. With this integration, Blyncsy will provide users with high-resolution visual references of roadway assets, which can be analyzed in detail to identify early signs of wear, damage, or other anomalies. This empowers transportation agencies to proactively manage roadway maintenance and address issues before they evolve into safety hazards.

According to Bentley, the new capabilities will significantly streamline the detection of infrastructure issues and reduce the time and cost associated with traditional inspection methods. By leveraging existing imagery data from Google Street View, Blyncsy eliminates the need for manual surveys and vehicle-mounted cameras, accelerating asset assessment and ensuring more comprehensive coverage.

One of the most promising applications of this technology lies in disaster response and recovery. In the aftermath of natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, or hurricanes, rapid damage assessment is crucial for effective relief and rebuilding efforts. The integration of Google’s geospatial data with Blyncsy’s analytics will allow agencies to quickly determine the extent of roadway damage and prioritize recovery operations accordingly. This represents a more cost-effective, scalable approach to disaster response and helps communities restore normalcy faster.

Mark Pittman, director of Transportation AI at Bentley, expressed excitement about the partnership’s potential to revolutionize infrastructure asset management. “We have a history of leadership in applying repurposed imagery for roadway maintenance, and the addition of Google’s 360-degree imagery and AI will further enhance the value Bentley provides to transportation departments and engineering firms globally. The expansion of our relationship with Google will enable us to further develop our growing infrastructure asset analytics capabilities—initially in the transportation sector with other industries to follow,” said Pittman.

Yael Maguire, Google’s vice president and general manager for Google Maps Platform & Google Earth, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration. “Businesses and cities have long relied on the fresh and comprehensive information from our maps to get insights about the world. As our strategic partner, Bentley combines industry-leading infrastructure solutions with Google’s leading AI and mapping technologies, like Vertex AI and Street View, to bring powerful analytics to public and private sector leaders who need mobility insights for making more informed decisions,” said Maguire.

This collaboration signifies a major step forward in the digital transformation of infrastructure. The insights generated from the new asset analytics capabilities will not only help in the optimization of maintenance schedules and reduction of operational costs but will also contribute to sustainability goals by extending the life of infrastructure assets and minimizing resource waste.

The enhanced Blyncsy offering is part of Bentley Asset Analytics, a suite of tools developed to assess the health and performance of infrastructure assets. These tools are increasingly vital as governments and organizations worldwide seek more sustainable, efficient, and proactive approaches to infrastructure management.

The general availability of Google’s Imagery Insights within the Blyncsy platform is expected in 2025. Once released, transportation agencies and infrastructure operators will gain access to real-time, actionable insights, enhancing their ability to respond to infrastructure needs more effectively.

Bentley’s digital twin technology will also benefit from the enriched data sources provided by Google. Digital twins are virtual representations of physical infrastructure that are continuously updated with real-time data. They offer a comprehensive view of asset conditions, helping stakeholders make data-driven decisions throughout the infrastructure lifecycle. The addition of Google’s Street View imagery and AI will add another layer of intelligence to Bentley’s digital twin solutions, enhancing their predictive capabilities and situational awareness.

As infrastructure continues to age and climate change increases the frequency and severity of extreme weather events, the need for innovative solutions like these becomes increasingly urgent. Bentley’s partnership with Google is poised to play a critical role in addressing these challenges by equipping agencies with tools to maintain resilient infrastructure and ensure public safety.

Bentley Systems, founded in 1984 by engineers for engineers, has long been at the forefront of infrastructure software innovation. Serving a wide range of industries including transportation, water, energy, and cities, Bentley’s solutions span all phases of the infrastructure lifecycle. With this new collaboration, Bentley reinforces its commitment to helping infrastructure professionals unlock the full value of their data and improve asset performance through cutting-edge technologies.
