Barratt Redrow Recognised by CDP for Climate Leadership

Barratt Redrow Earns Top Climate Rating from CDP

Barratt Redrow has once again been recognised as a global climate leader by CDP, the internationally respected sustainability benchmark. The company has achieved the highest possible ‘A’ rating for climate disclosure in CDP’s latest assessment cycle, marking the fourth consecutive year it has secured this top-tier score. This continued recognition reinforces Barratt Redrow’s position as a leading UK housebuilder in environmental transparency, climate governance, and carbon reduction performance.

The ‘A’ rating reflects the strength of the company’s environmental reporting, its comprehensive climate strategy, and the measurable progress it is making toward reducing emissions across its operations and supply chain. Achieving this distinction for four years in a row demonstrates not only consistency but also sustained leadership in embedding climate considerations into core business practices.

A Global Benchmark for Environmental Disclosure

CDP’s 2025 climate change questionnaire assessed more than 22,000 companies worldwide. Of these, only 751 organisations achieved the coveted ‘A’ rating. This places Barratt Redrow among the top 4% of companies globally for environmental disclosure and climate performance. Within the UK construction sector, the achievement is even more notable, as the company is one of only three UK construction firms to receive an ‘A’ for climate.

CDP scores provide a snapshot of a company’s environmental transparency and effectiveness. Ratings range from A to D and are based on several critical factors, including the comprehensiveness of disclosure, the robustness of governance frameworks, awareness and management of environmental risks, and evidence of best practices in climate action. In this context, Barratt Redrow’s performance stands significantly above both regional and sector averages. The European regional average for climate in 2025 was a ‘B’, while the global construction sector average was a ‘C’, highlighting the company’s leading position within its industry.

Recognition Beyond Climate: Water and Timber Risk Management

In addition to climate leadership, Barratt Redrow has also received recognition for its management of environmental risks related to forests and water resources. The company achieved a ‘B’ grade in both its forests and water disclosures, reflecting a management-level rating under CDP’s framework.

These grades acknowledge the structured approach Barratt Redrow is taking to identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with timber sourcing and water usage. Responsible procurement of timber and effective water management are increasingly critical in construction, particularly given rising regulatory expectations and growing investor scrutiny around environmental impact. The recognition underlines the company’s broader commitment to environmental stewardship beyond carbon reduction alone.

Advancing Sustainable Living Through Purpose-Driven Development

Barratt Redrow’s overarching purpose is to make sustainable living a reality while building strong and resilient communities. This ambition is being translated into tangible projects and forward-looking developments across the UK.

One of the most significant upcoming initiatives is the development of Cosmeston Farm in the Vale of Glamorgan, which will become the UK’s largest net-zero carbon housing development. This landmark project represents a major step toward mainstreaming low-carbon housing at scale and demonstrates the company’s commitment to pioneering sustainable residential construction.

In London, Barratt Redrow is also delivering Passivhaus-standard ‘Low-E’ homes. These homes are designed to significantly reduce energy demand through advanced insulation, airtightness, and efficient ventilation systems. By implementing Passivhaus principles in large-scale developments, the company is helping set a new benchmark for sustainable homebuilding in urban environments.

Science-Based Targets and Net Zero Ambitions

Barratt Redrow was the first national housebuilder in the UK to set science-based carbon emission targets aligned with climate science. These targets are verified through the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi), which provides companies with clearly defined pathways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

Following the combination of Barratt and Redrow in 2024, the company’s science-based targets are currently being updated in collaboration with the SBTi to reflect the enlarged group structure and operations. This process ensures that emissions reduction commitments remain robust, credible, and aligned with the latest climate science.

Looking ahead, Barratt Redrow has committed that all homes it builds will be zero carbon in use from 2030, subject to the implementation of the Future Homes Standard and continued grid decarbonisation. This forward-looking commitment signals the company’s intention to align with national decarbonisation policies and play a proactive role in supporting the UK’s net zero transition.

Leadership Perspective on the ‘A’ Rating

Commenting on the achievement, Bukky Bird, Group Sustainability Director at Barratt Redrow, highlighted the significance of securing the climate ‘A’ rating for a fourth consecutive year. She described the recognition as a strong endorsement of the company’s progress and a reflection of the strength of its governance structures, the quality and transparency of its climate data, and the tangible actions being taken to reduce emissions.

She emphasised that the rating demonstrates the integration of climate considerations across operations and supply chains. From responsible sourcing and construction practices to long-term design strategies for energy-efficient homes, the company is embedding sustainability throughout its value chain. The recognition from CDP, she noted, provides both validation of existing efforts and motivation to continue driving further climate action.

The Role of CDP in Driving Corporate Climate Action

CDP is an international non-governmental organisation dedicated to encouraging companies, cities, states, and regions to measure and disclose their environmental impacts. It maintains the world’s largest environmental database, which is widely used by investors, procurement teams, and policymakers to inform decisions that support a zero-carbon, sustainable, and resilient economy.

As a founding member of the Science Based Targets Initiative, CDP plays a critical role in advancing transparency and accountability in corporate climate action. Its scoring system is recognised globally as a benchmark for environmental performance and disclosure quality. Companies that achieve an ‘A’ rating are considered leaders in managing environmental risks and implementing best practices.

Transition to a Combined Disclosure

The 2025 CDP scores were based on a single disclosure submitted by Barratt Developments plc. There was no separate submission for Redrow plc during this cycle. The first combined disclosure for Barratt Redrow as a unified entity is scheduled to take place in September 2026. This future submission will reflect the integrated operations, strategies, and performance of the combined business.

The upcoming consolidated disclosure will provide stakeholders with a comprehensive view of the group’s environmental performance and climate strategy. As the company continues to align its reporting frameworks and sustainability governance structures, it is expected to further strengthen its transparency and consistency across the enlarged organisation.

Through sustained leadership in climate disclosure, robust governance, and ambitious net-zero commitments, Barratt Redrow continues to position itself at the forefront of sustainable construction in the UK and globally.
