Work is already underway on the new Greystones Community College, with BAM set to deliver a modern, sustainable school spanning approximately 11,000 m² on a 4.6-hectare site. The project is part of the Department of Education’s design and build program and will accommodate 1,000 students, including facilities for those with additional educational needs. The development also features over 50 classrooms, parking, drop-off areas, ballcourts, sensory gardens, and landscaped play areas, all designed with sustainable urban drainage (SUDS) systems.
Sustainability is central to BAM’s approach. The project incorporates eco-friendly methods like soil stabilization beneath raft slab foundations, minimizing soil excavation and reducing the need for imported materials. BAM will also use a precast concrete frame for the main structure to ensure efficient construction within a tight timeline.
At a recent sod-turning ceremony, Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board, along with Greystones Community College, welcomed Taoiseach Simon Harris TD, who praised the project as a “significant investment” in the community’s education infrastructure.
The new school, set to open in autumn 2025, will provide a vital resource for local families seeking multidenominational secondary education in Greystones and Delgany.
