BAM has officially begun the production of its innovative Flow wooden homes, following three years of extensive research, design, engineering, testing, and the creation of a unique platform technology. Using advanced production facilities in Oudkarspel and Heerhugowaard, located north of Amsterdam, BAM Wood Concepts manufactures the high-quality prefab elements for Flow, BAM’s sustainable, industrial, digital, and modular housing solution.
Flow is BAM’s response to the growing demand for affordable, sustainable, circular, and healthy homes. This architecturally flexible concept transforms residential construction into a streamlined, industrial process, catering to the rising need for such housing options.
The industrial production method enhances construction safety, reduces failure costs, and increases overall efficiency. With this approach, the shell of a Flow home, including façade finishes and modular installation components, can be assembled on-site in just one day. As a result, the total construction time, from start to finish, is reduced from an average of twelve months to just three months, even when factoring in custom options and site-specific planning.
Circular and Sustainable Design
A key aspect of Flow is its focus on timber construction with dry joints, which simplifies assembly and significantly boosts sustainability, particularly through offsite production. The concept combines timber frame construction (HSB) and cross-laminated timber (CLT) to create a structure that is not only robust but also eco-friendly. Timber frame elements are used for the façades, load-bearing walls, floors, and roofs, while solid wood stability walls are integrated into the core stair structure. Circular bio-based materials, such as cellulose for insulation, further enhance the sustainability of Flow homes, and all onsite disassembly is conducted using electric equipment.
Flexible Layouts and Custom Finishes
Flow offers a high degree of flexibility with a parametric model that provides numerous layout options. Façade designs can be customized with considerable freedom, and timber construction allows for increased urban integration with tailored solutions for different plots. By standardizing various modules, BAM ensures that Flow homes remain affordable while delivering on sustainability, industrialization, and digitization—all of which align with BAM’s “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow” strategy.
First Flow Homes
The first Flow homes, both for sale and rental, will soon be constructed in several locations, including Cruquius (Wickevoort Estate), Barendrecht (Zeeheldenwijk), Terneuzen (Othene), Valkenswaard (Wilde Wingerd), Doetinchem (Weidewald), Leeuwarden (beHagen), and Veenendaal (Wilgenpoort).
About BAM Wood Concepts
BAM Wood Concepts specialises in the industrial production of complete wooden houses.
