AECOM to Lead Renovation of Iconic King Fahd International Stadium

AECOM Strengthens Partnership with Saudi Ministry of Sport to Transform King Fahad Sport City Ahead of Global Events

DALLAS (May 19, 2025) – AECOM (NYSE: ACM), the global leader in infrastructure solutions, today announced the extension of its partnership with Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Sport to provide site supervision consultancy services for the transformation of King Fahad Sport City in Riyadh. This collaboration is part of the Kingdom’s preparations to host two landmark international tournaments: the AFC Asian Cup 2027 and the 2034 FIFA World Cup™.

“As Saudi Arabia advances toward its Vision 2030 goals, we’re honored to continue supporting the Ministry of Sport on this iconic project,” said Lara Poloni, President of AECOM. “Globally, we see how infrastructure investments act as catalysts for growth, and this stadium redevelopment demonstrates how sport can help build stronger, more vibrant communities.”

Nicknamed the “Pearl of Stadiums,” King Fahad Sport City has been a pillar of Saudi sports culture since its inauguration in 1987. AECOM will lead the stadium’s modernization to align with FIFA’s stringent international standards. These upgrades will ensure the venue is fully equipped to host top-tier events while supporting the Kingdom’s broader ambitions to elevate its global sports presence under Vision 2030.

“Our continued work with the Ministry of Sport reaffirms AECOM’s commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure,” said Hamed Zaghw, Chief Executive of AECOM’s Middle East and Africa region. “With experience from high-profile events such as the 2022 FIFA World Cup™ in Qatar, the 2012 Olympic Games in London, and the 2010 FIFA World Cup™ in South Africa, we bring unmatched insight and expertise to this transformative project.”

AECOM Hunt, the company’s renowned construction management arm, will play a central role in the redevelopment. Known for its leadership on major stadium projects across the United States—including the Intuit Dome, Lucas Oil Stadium, Mercedes-Benz Stadium, and SoFi Stadium—AECOM Hunt brings a legacy of over 140 successful stadium projects. Their extensive experience will be instrumental in delivering a world-class facility in Riyadh.

The transformation of King Fahad Sport City marks a key milestone in Saudi Arabia’s journey to become a global hub for sports, while promoting economic growth, enhancing quality of life, and uniting communities through the power of sport.
