AECOM Selected for the UK Environment Agency’s Fourth Ecological Services Framework

AECOM Secures Appointment to All Lots of UK Environment Agency’s Fourth Ecological Services Framework

AECOM, a global leader in infrastructure and environmental consulting, has been appointed to all four lots of the UK Environment Agency’s (EA) Ecological Services Framework 4 (EcoSF4). This new appointment builds on AECOM’s successful delivery of services under the previous EcoSF3 framework, reinforcing its pivotal role in supporting the EA’s mission to protect and enhance England’s rivers and wetlands.

The EcoSF4 framework, sponsored by the UK’s Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), will be utilized by the EA, Natural England, and other Defra organizations to procure a diverse range of technical and regulatory ecological services. These services will include flood-risk management, pollution regulation, and conservation efforts across England.

Frank Sweet, Chief Executive of AECOM’s global Environment business, stated, “Our position as the industry’s leading environmental engineering firm equips us to address the increasing demand for innovative solutions to biodiversity and resilience challenges. We are eager to collaborate with the EA on their critical ecological restoration goals, leveraging our extensive capabilities as a comprehensive environmental services provider.”

Under EcoSF4, AECOM will support initiatives such as river and wetland restoration, natural flood management, and the facilitation of fish and wildlife passage through England’s waterways. Colin Wood, Chief Executive of AECOM’s Europe and India region, added, “Our appointment highlights our expertise in conservation, environmental resilience, and flood-risk management. We’re proud to strengthen our partnership with the EA through this reappointment, which reflects our proven track record on EcoSF3.”

The EcoSF4 framework includes four specialized lots:

  1. Macroinvertebrate services
  2. Habitat and species surveys, evaluation, and reporting
  3. Geomorphology, river restoration, and habitat creation
  4. Fish passage design

During the EcoSF3 framework, AECOM was the sole supplier appointed to all lots and contributed to over 25 river restoration and fish passage projects, including the River Roch Improvement Strategy, the Millmead Fish Pass Detailed Design, and the Crystal Clear Clyst Restoration Plan. Additionally, AECOM completed 38 macroinvertebrate sample analysis projects for EA offices across Hertfordshire & North London, the West Midlands, Cumbria & Lancashire, and Yorkshire.

This reappointment solidifies AECOM’s reputation as a trusted partner in ecological services, supporting vital conservation efforts and addressing environmental challenges across England.
