AECOM Appoints Matt Kavanagh as Global Energy Strategy & Growth Lead

AECOM, a leading global infrastructure firm, has announced the appointment of Matt Kavanagh as its Global Energy Strategy & Growth Lead. With over two decades of industry expertise, Kavanagh has successfully identified, developed, and managed energy and economic development projects worth more than $3 billion across 25 countries. In his new role, he will drive AECOM’s strategic focus on energy infrastructure and the global energy transition, enhancing its capabilities to deliver large-scale generation, transmission lines, and grid modernization projects.

Kavanagh brings extensive expertise in energy infrastructure, having held senior roles across the power sector. Prior to joining AECOM, he served as Vice President of International Business Development and Strategy at a consulting firm specializing in complex power generation and delivery projects globally. Before that, he was Vice President at an independent power producer in Africa and the Middle East, where he expanded its portfolio to include 900 MW of thermal and renewable energy projects. Kavanagh also held the role of Deputy Resident Country Director for the U.S. Government’s Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) in Tanzania, overseeing a transformative five-year infrastructure program. This program delivered 3,000 kilometers of transmission and distribution lines, 27 substations, and a 37-kilometer subsea transmission cable to Zanzibar.
