Acciona.org Lights Up Pampanga with Expanded Energy Services

Clean, Reliable Energy for San Nicolás: Through residential photovoltaic systems, acciona.org will provide clean electricity to over 140 residents in the San Nicolás community.

Strengthening Collaboration: Expanding acciona.org’s initiatives to this province complements the positive impact of ACCIONA’s Malolos-Clark railway project, enhancing sustainable development in the region.

acciona.org, the corporate foundation of global infrastructure and renewable energy leader ACCIONA, has extended its flagship Light at Home program to the province of Pampanga in the Philippines. This expansion aims to provide access to clean, reliable electricity to more than 140 residents in the community of San Nicolás, marking a significant step in the foundation’s ongoing commitment to sustainable development and social impact in the country.

The Light at Home program delivers electricity through home photovoltaic systems, ensuring that underserved households benefit from a sustainable, low-cost energy solution. Technical support and maintenance are provided through a locally managed service center, guaranteeing uninterrupted service and empowering the community to maintain and optimize their energy systems over the long term. By bringing electricity directly to homes, the program not only addresses immediate energy needs but also supports social and economic development at a local level.

With this extension to Pampanga, acciona.org strengthens its presence in the Philippines, where it has been actively supporting rural electrification since 2022. Previously, the foundation focused on communities in the province of Palawan, bringing electricity to thousands of homes, schools, small businesses, and community centers. The success of these initiatives has created a scalable model that can be replicated in other provinces, contributing to broader national efforts toward sustainable energy access.

The decision to launch Light at Home in Pampanga arose from ACCIONA’s Social Impact Management team’s careful evaluation of energy needs in communities surrounding the construction area of the Malolos–Clark railway line. ACCIONA is currently building two key sections of this strategic railway, which will connect Malolos to Clark Airport, reducing travel time by up to two hours and preventing the emission of approximately 60,000 tons of CO₂ annually. By identifying and addressing energy gaps in nearby communities, acciona.org ensures that the social and environmental benefits of the infrastructure project extend beyond the railway itself, creating a holistic impact that combines sustainable mobility with improved quality of life for local residents.

The foundation’s approach emphasizes community engagement and local participation. The Light at Home program is designed to be financially sustainable while remaining affordable for households. An affordable service fee supports a network of technical assistance, spare parts, repairs, and routine maintenance, all managed through local customer service centers. This model empowers local personnel, creates employment opportunities, and fosters community ownership, ensuring that the service remains high quality and reliable over time. acciona.org continues to work closely with local organizations even after project completion, offering guidance, training, and support to strengthen long-term social and technical resilience.

Since its establishment, acciona.org has been recognized for its innovative social and sustainable management model, which combines practical solutions with community involvement. In the Philippines alone, the foundation currently benefits more than 15,700 people across over 3,400 homes, small businesses, schools, and other community centers. By providing access to clean energy, the program improves living conditions, reduces dependency on costly or polluting energy sources, and promotes broader social and economic development, including enhanced educational opportunities and business productivity.

The expansion to Pampanga reflects ACCIONA’s commitment to integrating social responsibility into its infrastructure and energy projects. It highlights how corporate foundations can play a critical role in supporting sustainable development, particularly in regions where energy access is limited. By coupling infrastructure development, such as the Malolos–Clark railway, with targeted social initiatives like Light at Home, ACCIONA demonstrates a model of inclusive growth that addresses both environmental and human development challenges.

Through this program, acciona.org continues to lead by example, showing how strategic partnerships, community engagement, and renewable energy solutions can create lasting change. As the foundation extends its footprint in Pampanga and beyond, it reinforces its vision of a world where sustainable energy is accessible to all, and local communities are active participants in shaping their future.
