KBR and Frazer-Nash Support UK Approval of Sizewell C and Rolls-Royce SMR

Frazer-Nash Consultancy and KBR Welcome UK Government Approval for Sizewell C and Rolls-Royce SMR Selection

Frazer-Nash Consultancy, a KBR company, has welcomed the UK Government’s decision to proceed with the construction of the Sizewell C nuclear power plant and the selection of Rolls-Royce SMR as the preferred technology partner for small modular reactors (SMRs) in the UK.

Sizewell C is expected to deliver low-carbon electricity to six million homes over its projected 60-year operational lifespan while creating thousands of high-skilled jobs within the nuclear industry. The announcement reinforces the critical role of nuclear power — both large-scale and modular — in supporting the UK’s energy security and net zero commitments.

Nial Greeves, Market Director for Energy and Infrastructure at Frazer-Nash Consultancy, said:
“We welcome the Government’s green light for the Sizewell C project — a once-in-a-generation opportunity to drive forward the UK’s low-carbon transition and bolster national energy resilience. The selection of Rolls-Royce SMR also marks a significant step in positioning the UK as a leader in advanced nuclear technology.”

He also highlighted the robust response from multiple SMR developers during the Great British Nuclear (GBN) process, demonstrating strong market interest and the potential for a wider SMR rollout in the future.

Ian Hudson, Senior Director for Nuclear at KBR, commented:
“Nuclear power is vital for delivering clean, reliable energy. To address the energy trilemma — affordability, reliability, and sustainability — nuclear must play a central role in the future energy mix. KBR is proud to continue contributing to the UK’s nuclear ambitions.”

Both companies emphasized the importance of sustained government commitment alongside private sector investment to ensure the timely deployment of new nuclear technologies.

KBR also noted the UK’s legacy of nuclear excellence and the strength of its supply chain, pointing to the rapid expansion of its own nuclear workforce — now exceeding 1,000 professionals — including apprentices, graduates, and interns involved in major nuclear programmes across the country.

“We stand ready, alongside our clients and partners, to support the successful delivery of the UK’s new nuclear vision,” the companies concluded.
