ZÜBLIN Expects Stable Growth in 2024 Financial Year

ZÜBLIN Navigates 2024 Construction Crisis with Strong Performance and Strategic Focus

Stuttgart-based Ed. Züblin AG, Germany’s leading building construction and civil engineering company, demonstrated resilience in 2024 despite ongoing challenges in the construction industry—particularly in residential construction. The company successfully offset market pressures through major infrastructure and industrial construction projects.

ZÜBLIN reported a stable construction output of approximately €4.6 billion in 2024, down slightly from €4.7 billion the previous year. The share of output generated in Germany increased from 84% to 86%. As of December 31, the company’s order backlog stood at €8.6 billion, slightly below the record €9 billion in 2023, yet well above the €7.8 billion recorded in 2022. Order intake fell to €4.2 billion, compared to €6 billion in 2023, largely due to the exceptional one-time acquisition of three major projects in the previous year.

ZÜBLIN’s workforce grew by 870 in 2024, totaling 15,982 employees—9,354 in Germany and 6,628 abroad.

Key projects launched in 2024 include Europe’s largest river water heat pump in Cologne, new research laboratories at Kiel University’s medical campus, and the new Kriegenbrunn lock. Internationally, the “Sea La Vie” residential development in Abu Dhabi stood out.

Looking ahead, ZÜBLIN remains optimistic about 2025. “We expect stable business development this year. Our strategy is clear: sustainable, climate-neutral construction across all sectors,” said Stephan von der Heyde, a member of the ZÜBLIN Management Board. “Our diversified portfolio positions us well, especially in infrastructure and industrial construction, which help buffer the current softness in building construction.”

The company is also advancing sustainable innovation with its MOLENO® serial timber hybrid system, aimed at cost-effective and eco-friendly residential construction, and “Bestand Beyond”—an initiative focused on resource-efficient building renovations.

ZÜBLIN began 2025 with a strong order pipeline, including the “&Amsterdam” project with 561 residential units in the Netherlands, the “Quartier am Ostpark” in Rüsselsheim (113 apartments using MOLENO®), and a replacement building for the GC complex at Ruhr University Bochum.
