Conti Federal Services, a leading construction and design-build firm specializing in environmental remediation, has been awarded an $18.5 million task order contract for the remedial action at the Tutu Wellfield Operable Unit 2 (OU2) in St. Thomas County, U.S. Virgin Islands (USVI). The contract will address groundwater contamination at the site, which is a key part of the ongoing effort to improve the quality of this vital resource for the local community.
The project, awarded by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 2 through the Remediation Action Framework (RAF) Remediation Environmental Services (RES) multiple award contract, will focus on remediating groundwater contamination at the USVI Department of Education Curriculum Center property, which spans approximately two acres. The remediation efforts will involve the installation of extraction, injection, and monitoring wells, along with the upgrade of the existing pump-and-treat system that is currently in place at the site.
The overall project, expected to be completed by June 2031, will last up to 78 months, providing the time needed to address the complex environmental challenges present at the site. The groundwater contamination in this region has been a long-standing concern, and the project’s goal is to restore the water quality in the area to a safe level, benefiting both the environment and the local residents.
“This significant project underscores our continued commitment to environmental stewardship and builds upon our proven remedial construction expertise under the RES contract. We look forward to applying our innovative solutions to improve groundwater quality, a critical resource, for this community,” said Laura Tobin, Vice President of Conti Federal’s Environmental Business Line.
